If you want to learn more about hydraulics, moving the independent lift to its own valve and off the FEL joystick is a great learning experience. ;)

when I mow my quick hitch drags the ground.

You need to change your technique. When you lower the deck, don't just take the 3PH level and put it down and leave it there or you WILL have your iMatch dragging around. The deck will be fully lowered in the first few inches of travel of the 3PH. Watch the deck and as soon as it stops lowering, move the 3PH lever back to the center position. Your iMatch will be plenty high and will stay out of the dirt.

As for the Independent lift, I would urge against it unless you don't have a loader and do not plan on ever getting one. Most people are concerned about the deck getting on the way when using a 3PH attachment, but the deck can be locked in the UP position so this is not an issue. I have found that anytime I'm using anything on the 3PH (grader box) that I want the deck off because it lowers the clearance so much that I start pushing dirt with it. I was advised against the indy lift by the dealer and knowledgeable owners on this forum and others and I have no regrets. The deck is SO easy to remove that it simply is not a detriment.

If your getting a FEL then you do not want the IL. If not then the IL is fine. Your going to use the same ports as the FEL so it will be a pain. Save the few bills and put it toward some cool 3 point ad on.

jdbower,

Did you do this? If so, can you post some pics? :)

Well I can see there's a lot of different ways to think about this. I'd better sit down and list out how I'll be using different implements. When mowing, I don't think I'd be leaving the loader on. From another thread, the idea of getting the tractor as light as possible to mow makes sense to me. Doesn't sound too stable either on hills without ballast. It sounds like the mechanical lift is designed to drop the mower in the upper portion of movement, so if you're careful on the lever, dragging a 3PH implement can be avoided. Thanks for the good comments. I'm not sure where I'll end up but this really helps when you haven't tried both setups in-person.

Did I read earlier that you would be mowing trails with an implement on? If so, with iMatch, you can easily drop the implement for mowing and keep the iMatch off the ground (like just stated). I say this because, if you're already in the woods, you probably have reason to keep the FEL on (safety from fallen logs, etc) and the indy lift would prevent that. Just something more to think about.

IMHO (for $0.02), I would save the money and deal with a low implement when cutting...

Now I wish I joined this forum before I bought my 2320 with FEL, 54D mower and 655 tiller, as well as adding the independent lift for the mower.

I have a hard time reconnecting the FEL hydraulics after using the mower. I hae equalized the SCV and still have a hard time reconnecting the hoses. There is usually no trouble connecting the mower but going back to the FEL is the hard part.

I do like the independent lift other than the hard time going back to the FEL for hydraulic connections.

I haven't had much seat time yet (rain, rain rain), but I just got a 2520 with ind. lift kit and a loader/mower diverter valve. With this, the hydrallic lines of mower are always connected. I only have to unhook/re-attch the FEL hoses if I remove/install the FEL. (This also gave me extra SCV couplers)
I have a push/pull lever (diverter control) behind my right foot that I pull out for FEL usage push in for mower. When in mower mode, I raise and lower with the curl action of the joystick. I opted for this because there are times I will want to pull something behind while I mow. I forsee using the 3 pt and mower at the same time more than I see using the mower and FEL at the same time.

Also, I can lock the mower height with the Height Gauge Assembly.

Only have 3 hrs on unit, but so far I love it
