2305 and the power beyond Kit

I am a weekend mechanic (at best) am wondering how hard it is to install a power beyond on a 2305. Otherwise I have to get tractor to the dealer and have then do it....have to pay for pick up and delivery + install, look like around $300.00 Any thoughts greatly appreciated

The average weekend mechanic can handle this with no problems.

do they give you fairly detailed instructions on how to install, with purchase of kit?

Yes and no...They usually have lots of pictures though. You can also see the layout in JDParts so you will have a basic idea of what you are in for...

the hardest part is removing the case plugs to install the threaded allen plug and the bypass hoses as the hydro case is "epoxy-like painted" black

I went round and round may times with a razor knife before they would budge

make sure you have the right sized allen key to remove the plugs and they are the long handle type so you can use a socket and long extensions on the socket to build a long lever

not sure if an impact wrench would be better

thus i would be sure i can remove all plugs before continuing on

other than that warning it is very easy

Thanks for the info, I have read in this forum how tough those plugs can be. great tip to try and cut thru the paint before trying to remove. does the thickness of the paint fill in the allen key hole as well, must have to clean that out too to get the right sized key in there.

I did mine over two years ago so my memory on that part is dim
but i think i might have gone to sears to get a 3/8" socket allen key once i found the correct size and tapped it in with a hammer
i remember one being harder than the others

Physically, I had to jack up the tractor and take off one wheel to get access. And you will get oil all over the place.
