2305 62" MMM noise

The center of the deck and the center hub is bent. A large tree root or rock caused it. I was able to hammer out the dent with a hammer. I had to order a new hub. The spindle looks okay, but I will now for sure when the new hub arrives.

Here's a picture of the brake lever that's being hit by the mid PTO shaft, and another picture of the bracket that's being damaged by the constant contact when mowing on an angle.

I would image many others who hear the noise will likely see the same damage.

GordNovo,

Your filter also looks like it has seen a little combat duty. Much harder a hit, and TBN would have another "man down" in the field...

Hey ADin, you noticed that too, eh? I should swing by the dealer tomorrow and pick up a spare just in case:)

I really should get myself a skid plate. But I keep saying to myself... ah.. the hardest jobs are behind me... the hardest work's over.... yeah right!

Gordnovo, Thanks for the picture. I'm a little slow with pics.
That's the spot. Mine looks much worse than yours.

Talked to my dealer today about the grinding down of the break lever. He hadn't heard about it yet but was going to followup with Deere.

Nonetheless, he tells me the damaged pin is replaceable under warranty in the mean time.

The damage on mine isn't too great yet, so I'll hold off on getting it repaired for the time being. Can't speak for other people though. It would not be good to loose braking when you really need it!

I agree. I have not heard back from my dealer yet. There will be a big problem if my 2305 ends up in my pond due to brake failure.

So has the dealer been able to solve your problem? My 2305 has the same problem and would love to know if they were able to resolve the issue. Thanks.

I have not heard from my dealer (no surprise) I made some adjustments to my mower which helped. I had the anti scalp wheels too low. They were constantly riding on the ground causing the mower to move sideways a great deal on unlevel ground and while turning. With the wheels higher, the mower doesn't move sideways as much. The sideways movement is what causes the brake clevace to contact the mower driveshaft. I now find that the mower will scalp areas easier. I changed the way I approach some areas that are unlevel and that is helping. I have mowed 3 or 4 times since changing the wheel height, and have heard the grinding only once or twice. In time I'll learn how to mow these areas without scalping them.

I think a redesign of the brake rod will be required to fix this problem correctly. It needs to be moved over toward the left side of the machine.

It's amazing how these problems are found by the owners and not testing by the manufacturer. I've said for years that the customer does the testing at their expense. I have had a couple of problems with my 2305. They were all apparent within a very short amount of time. I think they could easily be found and corrected at the factory if tested properly. This issue is a good example. Look at how many owners are having this problem. It could have easily been identified and fixed by simply mowing in a "real world" situation. The radiator/fan interference is another. Mine hit on the first big bump I encountered.

All in all, there are a lot of things that could go wrong. The manufacturers do a good job with most. It just seems it could be better.

RVTECH, I can unfortunately tell you exactly what the problem is with your 62C deck. I hit a short stump and actually bent the deck surface where the spindles mount and it allowed the blade tips to contact each other. The tractor only had 4 hours on it at the time so I was really sorry that I had wrecked my new toy(tool). Rather than replace the deck, I took it off and tore it down, and secured in a completely level fashion. I made up a spanner bar and machined a dummy spindle to bolt to the damaged flanges for pulling and measuring purposes. Several hours later, I had a true and level deck and after reassembly with new blades tried it out. It mows as good as new with no noise or uneven cutting. I can lend you the plug I made if you decide to try the same deal. Take care!

That is exactly what I did this weekend. Do you have a picture of what you made?
