Hi,
I got my 2305 last fall I used it 2X to moe my lawn... loved it, but on the first day I hit a stump with a blade and stalled the engine. ouch, I saw the stump and thought it would clear... anyhow it restarted fine and I finished mowing that day and the next time no problem... then I bought the mulching kit and installed it. the blades were hitting each other... apperently the mower deck and my old blades were bent... I am surprised that there is no shear pin in this system, I am not sure it would have helped. My dealer quoted me a price of $1100 to replace the mower deck pan, I think this is like 95% of the price I paid for it... they also said the can try to straighten it for $200... becareful of the stumps i guess.

Ouch...!! :( That's a pretty expensive stump! One concern that I would have with your dealer straightening the deck - make sure the pulleys are all tracking straight and in alignment with each other.

Or you might find that you've got a belt "eating monster" on your hands! (And the shaft bearings might have a shortened lifespan, too.)

For the cost - I'd definitely try the repaired deck before the replacement deck.

Or look around for a good used deck..

Good luck.

Hi ChrsDrn ,

That's a bad day ... How big was this stump ??? - Ht./Dia.

A shear bolt would be used in a direct drive system like a snow blower , but
the mower deck has the belt to give or slip IMO , I'm surprised it did all that
damage , especially shutting down the tractor , learn something everyday ...

I'll furshur be watching for those stumps ...

Got it back today it seems to running well, my lawn is still too short to mow time will tell. going to rent a stump grinder and kill that stump... it is about a foot in diameter and < 1/2 inch tall.
thanks for the info

Been there, stalled the engine hitting something that is. I think I once got a rock caught under the deck and stalled the motor. No damage except a gouge in the blade, don't think I was running the motor full speed at the time. There were a couple times something got stuck under the PTO rear roto tiller and stalled the motor. There is a slip clutch on the tiller but I don't know why it didn't slip. First time was a 3/8"x 10' steel rod that was hiding and it wrapped several times around the tines before the motor on the 2210 stalled. that was fun cutting that out with a hacksaw!
