This forum has some very knowledgeable people so here I am asking for help again. I have looked at many posts but the question still remains. I have a 2305 and am finally starting to add 3 point attachments. The first attachment to be purchased, very soon, is a rake. It seems that some think that a standard size Landscape Rake will fit and work well. Others feel that the rake will not raise high enough to work. I need advice from those who have been there before.

If you have a 54" snow blower on a 2305 I would be curious as to your experience lifting that with the limited Cat 1 also.

Thanks for taking the time to read this

I don't have a rake, but I do have a 5' blade. It only lifts about 12" or so off the ground, so there's not a lot of clearance for transport or going up (or over) hills and banks. It's useable if you're careful about where you're going (I only use the blade on the road). I think the low profile attachments cost a little more, but having not really looked I can't say that with any certainty.

As for pulling a 5' blade, it works well enough. But if I get into deep soil it can bog down a little, or pull the back side over if the deep part is on one side. It takes near constant attention to keep the blade level, but that will happen with any machine.

I have a 5' Woods rake and it has worked awesome. No problems at all. I landscaped my entire fives acres - - it is one of best attachemnts. Especially if you have a gravel driveway.

I have a 5ft York landscape rake with scarfer and blade that lifts to 17" on my 2320.
One thing that I insisted on was that the rake that I buy would fit on my Imatch. The dealer contacted JD who said that they'll think about it. so the dealer just put two bushings on it. It works fine.
The lift depends on the hole settings on your 3ph arms

An alternative to modifying your 3ph attachments so they fit on the Imatch is to get speeco's ehitch. There's a thread somewhere that discusses it.

Right now I'm using it to clear rocks from my back yard so that I can put in lawn. The rake will drag all the fist size rocks. My fel with teeth will dig the head size. And I'll go after the bigger stuff with my bh.

I have a rear blade that I use behind my grandpa's 2210 and my dads 3720. It works great but when loading onto a trailer, I noticed that the blade scrapes the ground. I never have loaded it with the 3720 so im not sure. sad thing is, my blade broke yesterday.:( the bolt holding it in place unscrewed itself and busted off the pin used to hold it at a desired angle. I managed to screw the blade back on but others should be careful to buy the right implement. before you get the rake, check to see if the bolt holding it in place is tight. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachments/140037-new-blade-broke.html

mred,

Everything I use is standard size, and it all works. Like vablue said you just have to be careful crossing ditches and hills. I've got some gouges and divots in the ground where I cross fields and ditches, but 90% of the time the rake does exactly what I want.

You'll always want more lift height, and I doubt the extra few inches you gain on a low profile tool would ever be enough. My advice would be to shop based on value.

one thing I've found works for some implements is to use a cat 0 toplink, it's short enough to add some lift height for stuff that hangs way back, but it will change the geometry so it won't work with every thing. works great for my disc harrows tho, before I got it the back set of gangs were digging too deep with the cat 1 toplink, but do just right with the cat 0.

I had a 2210 (precursor to your tractor). I ran a 54" blower behind it for a number of years. It worked fine, but needed the loader on to act as a counterweight. Otherwise the steering got a bit iffy. I was using turfs, and was constantly amazed by how good the traction was.

I had to turn the pins "in" on a couple of implements to get them to fit on the hitch, but it would lift them all. The lift height on a 5' rotary cutter was really inadequate, but I made do.

Great little tractors.

Hope this helps.

I have a 2210 with both standard and sub-compact attachmetns, here's my 2 cents:

One of the issues with many of the sub compact attachments is that they are built with a 20" wide 3 point instead of the standard 26" of full size cat 1. This works fine on the 2210/2305's unless you plan on getting a quick hitch like the I-match (or speeco/harbor freight).

I have a hitch and had to modify my rake and sub-soiler (both sub-compacts) to make them wide enough to fit the hitch. My blade is a 6' J-bar full size that weighs about 300 Lbs. It does only lift about a foot as others have stated but works well for me.

In short, I would buy full size implements because they're usually cheaper, heavier, and work just fine.

BTW I'm another big fan of a rake. It's probably the implement I use the most and was well worth buying.
