So you are not really comparing ammo, That takes a bench and an accurate barrel.

Some ammo shoots well for some barrels. The converse of both is also true.

But "standing" is just the shooter.. nothing more, nothing less.
True enough! I posted the pics for 'color' mainly. The subject matter was intend to mostly be aimed at feed/fire/eject in pistols. Thought the posting of 'real world' (no bench, breathing) target pics might add to the discussion, if not my embarrassment. Let's just take the accuracy out of it... although it was a side by side comparison albeit without most all the variables removed. :D

I shoot Winchester through my MK II & Single Six, also my rifles. I recently acquired a Henry & the kids got me some CCI & Remington. Hoping to try it out this weekend. I always shoot a new gun from a rest to start with to remove operator error before going freehand.
I'll shoot some CCI & Remington through the auto's to see how they work & post my findings. If my memory serves me correctly, the MK II hated the CCI years ago & it will be my first time shooting Remingtons through it.

Clearly the best performance came from the Thunderdon'ts. Glad someone is having some success with them. For me, they shot fine ... so long as they actually shot. Thanks for posting the comparison.

This may not be scientific, but when I shot .22LR in my Ruger MK2 in competition (steel challenge) I always shot the Winchester silver box ammo, as it seemed to have less FTF than some other brands. All .22 rimfire rounds are not as reliable as center fire rounds. This is the main reason that "experts" don't recommend a .22 rimfire as a defensive weapon. But to me it seemed that Winchester silver box had less FTF than others. Some report that CCI has more reliable ignition than others.

It is extremely rare to have a factory center fire round of any kind not go bang if fired in a suitable firearm. It is fairly common for .22 rimfire rounds not to go bang. And some less reliable than others.

Agreed, James. Part of the fun of rimfire guns is finding the ammo that shoots best in that particular gun. It used to be even more fun before the price explosion. After that, it just got frustrating. I never cared that the Remingtons didn't work well in my guns until I could no longer find the Winchesters that did.

The other part of the fun is (or was) shooting a brick of them in one afternoon with nary a dent in your wallet.

Amen. The wife and I would often shoot a brick apiece in an afternoon. She with her .22/45 and me with my MK2. We had a shady range with a good berm and steel targets. Spending an afternoon with your wife and some good shooting doesn't get a lot better than that.

I found 2 500 ct bricks of Winchester in an old shooting bag the other day, $6.99:eek:

What is the definition of a brick? 100 or 500rds or?

Rate to even see a brick anymore. Odd numbers like 525, 555, 325, 333, etc
