LS MT225S
First post here and I'm very new to tractors, so my apologies to start.

LS 225S TLB.

The LS backhoe manual indicates:
Use tractor engine speed that your experience permits. At first set PTO RPM of the tractor to slow.

There is no mention anywhere else at all about using PTO with the backhoe, engaging, disengaging, etc...

The backhoe does function with the PTO off, but it seems a little weak with the bucket curl.

So the question is: Does the PTO switch have to be turned on to get the most hydraulic pressure?

On my LS the PTO has nothing to do with the backhoe. You should set the RPM of the tractor to the what ever the tach says the PTO speed is. Leave the PTO switch off. With out proper RPM speed of the engine, the back hoe functions will be slow. A lot of us run the engine almost wide open for the backhoe.

Just to cloud things a little, Yes the Backhoe or hydraulics in theory operate independent of the PTO. However someone had done a test and for some reason the hydraulic pressure (I believe it was, maybe it was flow) increased if he had the PTO on.

Yes run the tractor at PTO RPM but you can experiment and try slightly lower RPM's and if the hydraulic performance is fine, run there.

I don't believe the 225's have DPF or other emissions so premature regen cycles isn't a concern which is why many of the larger HP tractors have to run higher RPM most of the time.

On both my MT125, and now my XG3025 (MT225E) , I have never turned on the PTO! The 125 was an HST, my 3025 is a gear. The big difference is in engine RPM, the lower the RPM, the less power and reduced power to dig happens. Most new / inexperienced BH operators "over-control" and are jerky with their movements. Lowering the RPM helps a little with this.

My neighbor has a new MT225-S TLB. He has no experience with it. When I was "instructing" him, we lowered the RPM to about 1800.... he had a much better experience learning how to dig.

If anything, turning on the PTO switch would decrease the amount of power /hydraulic pressure to use for the BH.... now you are diverting power to turn the PTO.

The owners manual has quite a few translation issues from Korean to English.... what they are trying to say is "decrease RPM to a level comfortable to the operator".

Hope this helps you out a bit! Oh, by the way, if you put a general location in your profile, it might help others that are familiar with your area help you out with other questions.

Congratulations on the new tractor.... the MT225-S is really nice!
