Hi All,

The outer bearing (#11 in the diagram) of my right front axle failed and the stub axle (#4 in the diagram) came completely out while I was driving the tractor. The main reason for this failure was lack of lubrication.

I may or may not have more internal damage. When I put the stub axle back in and rotate, things move freely with no unusual feelings or noises (this is wothout any load).

But my question is: How does the stub axle stay in the axle housing without again falling out? What retains it? Does the pressed bearing retain it? OR snap ring #12 in the diagram? Or something else?

Yanmar Tractor Parts: 4WD INTERNAL

Thanks, Keith

Locknut #14 hold the stub axle assembly together.

#13 Washer keeps the Nut from loosening and coming off. If the Stub isn't broken could be the Washer is bad. The Inner Tab maybe Broken or Not bent In to lock it in place. You Can't see it in the Pick of the Stub Axle but there should be a Channel for the Inner Tab to Lock In at ?

Thanks guys. Just what I needed to know. The stub axle is not broken and I did notice that it was threaded at the end. I guess the nut and washer are probably laying in there. I'll have to take everything apart and reassemble.

Thanks, Keith
