2210 Thrust Bearings and Rod Caps

Tearing down my Tractor Engine. The thrust bearing on the front has the tang missing which lead me to notice both the front and the back main bearings are blocking the tag from sitting inside the notch. The main bearings are pressed flush on both sides to the outside of the engine which in turns covers that notch. I'm guessing this wrong and the tang should sit in the notch leaving the bearing hanging slightly out of the block? Were they maybe the wrong bearings?

Also, both connecting rods had the caps on what I would believe to be backwards. I believe the notches that the bearings sit in are suppose to be on the same side?

Looking at this picture would agree with notches on same side. CONNECTING ROD W/BUSHING: Yanmar Tractor Parts

I also believe you are right about the thrust bearings. Here is a page out of the I&T repair manual.

Out of curiosity, which of those YM models are the same as the 2210?

None, but the 240 is a 2 cylinder and very similar. I suspect the repair manual for it is the closest to be found unless you go to Japan.

So looking at it more, the main bearing sits on the inside of the thrust bearing so it does not interfere. My thrust bearings are just missing the tang so it was hard to notice how it actually is suppose to sit.

But the rod caps were definitely backwards then.

Also, is there an indicator on which direction the piston/rod should face?
