.22 rimfires

Anschutz rifles are amazing. Spend 4 years shooting for the college team and all we used were Anschutz (They paid all the bills -needless to say).
Shooting on the standard 50' range it was fun to split playing cards that were hung on edge to demo the rifles to students interested in shooting with the school club. It great to see the look on their faces when a split card floated to the floor and they couldn't even figure out what we were shooting at.
Nowadays 3-4K will get you in to a top competitive rifle... ouch!

When I was in high school (mid 70's) I shot on a local Y team indoors 50'. Several kids had Anschutz.... my dad had 5 kids, so, no, I don't get an Anschutz. :confused3:

What I got, though, was a Remington 580 for about $69 from a local sporting goods store, and a couple hundred dollars worth of sights and trigger work from an ancient gunsmith. :thumbsup:

I had no problems tearing the 10 ring consistently. It kind of miffed a couple of the rich kids with the fancy leather shooting jackets. I think on a 50' range, unless you're hopped up on sodypop, its not too hard to hold still and squeeze. At longer ranges, I'm sure the Anschutz's would outperform my Remington. But I'm only shooting 50'!!! :laughing:

I shoot a Stevens 416 regularly. 50 foot 10 bull targets set out at 50 yards. Peep sights, and the scores are not bad for prone. But 1 moa at 100? I'm off that game. I need something better than loose pack ammo I suppose.

Yeah, out past 50 yards ammo quality starts to make a difference. At 100 yards, I'm happy if my cheapie ammo holds minute of target. I know a good deal of the problem is me, but I doubt that Winchester Wildcats are going to shoot dime-size groups out of any gun, much less my Savage.

I shot a target on Wed. 10 bulls at 50 yds. Three shots fell out of the black, and I can tell you why, THE LIGHT, and tired eyes.
After the page was full, I shot in the same way at 100 yds. The drop was a FULL 7 inches. The group was at best 4 inches. But I will say, holding target is difficult with peeps when the front aperture and the target circle do not give high contrast "rings" to center on. There is some logic to the NRA 100 yard military targets being about a 6 inch black.

The only 22 that I like more than my Anschutz is my,

Melvin Forbes custom made it EXACTLY the way I wanted,

He designed and makes the entire actions and all other metal except the bbl., that is a Douglas premium,

He even makes the flush mounted magazines. To release it, you push a button and it pops into your hand,

I ordered mine with a "Jewell" trigger, it's completely creep free and fully adjustable down to 2 ounces...

Mel even designed the scope rings/mount and then sold the rights to "Talley", that builds/sells them today.

Balance is perfect, because of the Melvin designed/patented stock, that he ALSO builds!

As expected, the rifles Mel produces, shoot VERY good...

VERY Nice rifle - I have never heard of it and really feel bad about that seeing is my "neighbor."

CZ is what I'd have if I did it over again (the deal with .22 LR, .17 HMR, and .22 Mag barrels) because of the beauty of the piece. I have the Savage MK2 bull barrel--I owned the 93 SS Bull .22 Mag and it was so accurate I decided I wanted a plinker that was as accurate--and it is. I put both into Boyd's stocks and now they are beautiful as well as accurate. They are as accurate as I can be--a coin is a legitimate sized target at 50 yards for me even. I would have saved for the CZ...
