I've had a Remington nylon 66 forever and if they still make it, get one
Jim:)

Ruger 10-22 also has a very good reputation.

I doubt I will ever wear mine out in the years I have left...

For an out of the box stock firearm, it has no equal in current production. Tossup as to whether it, or the early $49.00 Ruger Sport semiauto 22 pistols, are/were the best value in firearms history....IMO of course.

I have a bicentenial Ruger 10/22. It is a good rifle, even though it was pretty well used when I got it. Which, is a shame, because it is the bicentenial model(which amounted to a simple script on the barrel). I cleaned it up, but you can still tell it hard a hard life before.

I find I still like single shots and old bolt actions though. I just found pictures of my Dad in 1955 when he got a Mossberg bolt actio 22lr for Xmas. Talk about grinning ear to ear :)

I have a Remington 597 I believe it is. Cleaning it is a hassle due to the two rails and seemingly needing 3 hands to put it back together after the bolt has been out. I hardly ever use it compared to my Marlin 25N bolt action .22. I think if I do it again, I'll try to find an upper receiver for my AR15 chambered in .22LR.

I always have had good luck with Marlin .22's. I have a semiauto that has worked very well for plinking and what not. But to tell the truth, I have a .22 mag Marlin Bolt action with heavy barrel in SS. It trumps all the other .22 by far as far as accuracy is concerned. I would pick that one up before any others. Great little rifle for those dangerous squirrels around here. If you were looking for a new small caliber rifle I would look at the .17 before the .22. Quiet and accurate, but a little more expensive to shoot.

I'll agree with the others who have the little Ruger 10/22s. It a great little arm, never seems to jam, and is a joy to shoot. Accurate and reliable. That is a tough combination to beat. Mine has the laminated stock, I think it looks better than the standard stock, not sure it helps with the accuracy of the little rifle but laminated stocks are known for being less suseptible to humidity swelling and shrinking that regular wood stocks are.

I bought a used Ruger 10-22 when I was in High school. That thing has shot great for 25 years and I am not even sure how old it was when I bought it. Bob is right about the stock. I took that one on a very wet backpacking trip way back then and it swole up pretty good. It mostly returned to it's stock size and shape, but not completely. I replaced it with a synthetic Choat tool folding stock with a stainless hinge/frame and havn't had any issue with it since:) Great rifle... Also since it is so popular, there are accessories readilly available for it. Match grade bull barrels, all kinds of stocks, sights, magazines, internal mods ect, ect...

I hav to go with the Rutger 10/22 also. Mone is kept in the barn for rats. Been there for years, never fails to shoot, ever. Mike P.S. I do know better than to keep a rifle in hte barn, but if it isn't there, then the rats live.
