I just did a major service on a 2120 HSS 12x12, what is the proper way to up shift or down shift on the go? Use the clutch or just change gears?
Is the HSS for slow speed F&R loader operation only?

It's not my tractor but I would like to know for future reference.

Thanks

Forward/Neutral/Reverse shifts can be done without clutching. Any speed or range shifts require either the clutch pedal to be depressed, or the shuttle shifter to be shifted to Neutral.

I just bought a 1993 2120 with HSS. I've been using my neighbor's without HSS. What is the difference? I'll be using mine to bush hog, roto-till, move dirt and haul logs 1/4 mile to the house. I know from using his it will do everything I need.

See my post above for the short version of HSS and EHSS operation. SSS operation requires the use of the clutch pedal for every speed and direction change.

OK, so when I'm using the loader, or any other implement, shifting from forward to reverse w/o clutching is the benefit. Sounds like it will be very helpful. Should I back off the throttle when I shift?

On my 1993 the main four speeds are synchronized. I still double clutch to shift them but in theory you could just depress the clutch, then shift. The range gears require a clutch and full stop. I only shift on the move in high range on the road; 2-3-4. I don't count on the synchros being able to speed-match gears spinning that fast.
The reverser is very handy for snow plowing, moving a pile of something, and quick reversing in the woods.

Thanks so much! These are very handy hints. My tasks are often in short space, and using my neighbors 2120 required stopping, clutching, reversing etc. I'll most likely never have it on the road. Right now I'm rebuilding the lift cylinders and replacing the starter solenoid. (Really helps to be handy with equipment.) I paid just over $7k with tax, and for less than $100 I'll have everything working great. I'm a proud owner and look forward to using it the rest of my life. Thanks for all of the help.
