2050 operating temp

A friend has a 2050 that, according to the temp light is running hot. I posted earlier about the water pump. The pump is OK but did have some crud blocking the port to the engine. There is no thermostat and the radiator was boiled out last year. Could the sender for the light be bad? Leaning towards replacing sender or buying a guage. I have not been there when the tractor is being used. Just helped with the pump and it was cold that night.

The sender could be bad. Is steam escaping from the radiator cap?

Thanks Len, I asked but the owner did not know. The only thing he said was the light came on after running it an hour. We did clean the crud out of the water pump. The impeller was good and spun smooth. Fins on radiator were cleaned before we put it back in. Will see him at church tonight, so more later.

He told me last night that he could feel the heat coming off the engine from the seat but it did not boil over. Sometimes mine spit without running hot. A gauge or even just a sender is the next step I think. If it is running hot what could it be? Let me recap: New belt, water pump OK, radiator boiled out and appears good, new 50-50 coolant (still clean), cap looks good, no thermostat.
