HOLY MOLY, I just got my 2038R today and decided to try it out for a few mins tonight and I shut it off 3 times before letting it run as I thought there was something wrong with it. IT IS SO LOUD you cannot hear the engine and can barely hear the blades over the WHINE and METALLIC HOWL - it reminds me of a HYDRO WHINE and a lot of scraping/grinding metal - I didn't see anything wrong and it cut but good heavens its unbelievable. I will definitely have to wear shooting protective earmuffs as well. Its as loud as any combine whine I can remember and spins up about as radical.

Is it designed to be that way? does anyone else have one ? is yours loud like that?

I have an entire 3.7 hours on it so I doing think its worn out yet.

oh side note, I was only running it up to the economy pto speed indicator but did run it up while sitting still to near the rated pto speed just to see if it made any different noise and nope its just crazy loud

Is the gearbox full of oil? Spindles greased?

Check your manual, the 2038R does not have E-PTO. That marking on the tach face is not used. To get 2100 RPM on the MID-PTO and 540 RPM on the rear PTO you need to have the RPM at the higher PTO mark (~2500 RPM).

AutoConnect PTO shafts have some chatter at mid throttle settings. Additionally, you are hyper sensitive to your new tractor. Run the mower at full throttle, and enjoy.

I will agree its a little quieter at WOT but dang and I mean DANG its loud - maybe it doesn't have any oil in the gearbox - I don't get the whining sound - I will check that tomorrow nite - I would presume the dealer lubed and greased everything since its new but I guess I shouldn't assume they did what they were supposed to HA.

Sounds to me like there is something wrong with it. It shouldn't be making any metal on metal squealing noises.

See your Deere dealer as we can't tell how "loud" it is, nor what your experience is with "loud" or "quiet" mowers.

so its louder than my 5088 150HP tractor with a batwing mower running WOT. my wife tried it out mowing last night and said it was way too loud for her liking - I got the sour face when she pressed the mower button as well as the scowling eyebrows - I shrugged my shoulders and said - enjoy your new mower!!!

I don’t think I would run the unit anymore without checking all fluid level. Sounds like something, hydro or mower gear box is low on either hydro fluid or grease. The setup person could have put the wrong fluid in the mower gear box, would not be the first time such has happened.
