Hi all,

I'm new to tractors and pricing out my first one... I'm looking at all the major brands, trying to get a sense of comparable models across brands. I'm generally looking in the 25-35HP range, and the JD "families" (1 family, 2 family, 3 family, 4 family) are confusing me.

It looks like the machines get bigger, heavier and burlier as you go up from the 1 family to the 2, 3, etc. So I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why the listed MSRP on the Deere website is lower for the 3032E than for the 2032R. Huh?!?!

By all appearances, the 3032 is a bigger, heavier, burlier, more capable machine vs. the smaller, lighter weight, more "light duty" 2032. Is that wrong? Am I missing something?
What are the important differences between the 2032 and the 3032?

Thank you!

E series tractors are typically lower feature tractors. Less electronics and such.....

Ah, okay, that would help explain it then.

In that case, what kinds of features do the R series machines have that the E series lacks? If it's just 'electronics and such,' do I care? Are they substantive features that will change the capability of the tractor, or just "creature comforts" that are nice to have? (I don't need my tractor to have a CD player! )

Pick up their brochure. It will tell you everything that you need to know with a side by side comparison

R models are deluxe, E models are economy. In the case of that particular E, it's an ancient design with basic features and a bunch of corners being cut. I am convinced Deere only has the E models in their lineup to hang on to a few extra sales in cases where price is the priority and the buyer really wants a Deere and might not bother to shop the competition.

Compare a 3 series E to a 3 series R model and you will see the differences pretty clearly. And be sure to cross shop the competition. I know that for the price my relative paid for his 3 series E model, competing tractors offer a *lot* more.
