I had this posted in another thread but it might have gotten buried. I’m new to this so I’ll try in a new thread.

Just curious if any ck owners have looked at the maintenance schedule in the owners manual? When looking at the section for engine oil and filter, it is very vague and open to different interpretations. I can’t recall what the book said for my 2016, but I don’t remember it being confusing like this could be.
Looking at the schedule it could be interpreted that only the direct/indirect injection engines need oil change at 50 hrs, tier 2 or 3 at 200hrs, and tier 4 at 400. I suspect this is incorrect but will be contacting the dealership early next week when the owner returns from vacation.

I know the schedule is yet another bad translation in the world of Korean to English literature...
The engine oil and filter should be changed at 50 hrs. and then every 400 hrs./ annually on a tier 4 (Kioti's are all either direct or indirect injection, thus the 50 hr. change)
The hydraulic fluid and all filters in the system should be changed at 50 hrs. and then every 200 thereafter.
It's worth the $ and peace of mind to KNOW that you replaced fluids with the variety you have chosen and that the system is free of contaminates which could do harm.

Like most modern tractors, you replace the hydraulic/HST filters at 50 hours, but not the fluid. If you have concerns about particles/chips/etc, you can drain the fluid, screen or filter it externally, and put back in the machine, but I would not bother with that unless you already have to drain and replace the fluid as part of the filter removal. In most cases, you only lose a small amount of fluid when doing the filters, and there are tricks to minimize it even further (I normally lose 1-2 cups at most, so having a spare quart on hand is plenty).

You will hear from a lot of paranoid folks that say the hydraulic fluid needs to be replaced at 50 hours, but that is hogwash -- hydraulic fluid doesn't even have the chance to get contaminated or broken down in 50 hours use. It can go hundreds of hours before there is any concern. The combination of filters and magnetic rings should catch any metal chips/etc. If still concerned, drain, screen, and put the fluid back in the machine. It would be a complete waste to dispose of hydraulic fluid with only 50 hours on it. It's not like engine oil.

Thanks for the input..my intention is to change the engine oil and filter and replace with full synthetic at 50 hours. I also intend on changing both the hydraulic filter and the transmission filter at the same time. I am thinking , according to the schedule provided, that I will need to replace the hydraulic and transmission filters again at 200 hours and swap out the fluid at 400 hours. I’m guessing filters every 200 and fluid every 400...and according to the attached maintenance schedule I am thinking engine oil and filter every 400 hours....I only have 4hrs on the machine , but I want to be certain about the maintenance. The Kioti person in charge of maintenance at the dealership is on vacation until December 6....I intend on confirming with him before I do anything.

Changed fluids and filters today and the thing STILL doesn't smell like a real diesel. Engine is now on synthetic Shell 5W40...maybe that will help.

Plan is to keep an eye on the engine oil and change filter at 50 hrs if it's not too dirty, then filter and oil the next 50 hrs. Anyone else do that?

Suppose you're right but I keep hoping. My baby Kubota still smells right so I can sniff it and feel better.

Any thoughts of 100 hours on synthetic oil with a one filter change?

Yeah, I like to get a whiff of bus exhaust every now and then too. :drink:
Once a year or 200 hours, whichever comes first, or more honestly...whenever I have time!

One thing to remember is that new hydraulic oil is hundreds of times more contaminated than any in your system unless your system has been compromised. A consulting hydraulic engineer told us this in a hydraulics school I went to. Some called BS which is what he was waiting for. He produced pictures of oil samples for all the major brands and then those of the same oil after it was filtered in hydraulic systems. There is a huge difference between the micron filtering range of your filters and that of the refinery.
