2015 Glow plugs burning out

Hi All, Last spring I bought a barely used 2015HST with 100 hrs on it from a private individual. No problems until recently at 200 hrs. One day, the tractor just wouldn't fire, getting 12 volts to the glow plugs but my multimeter showed that all of the plugs were out of range (read "OL") in ohms.

Figuring that they were just bad, I replaced all 3 plugs. Had 2-3 ohms resistance when new, so I thought I was good to go. Well, started it for the second time since the new plugs this morning and I have the same problem. Still getting 12 volts to them, which goes off with the solenoid and dash light, but the plugs are showing about 25 ohms resistance and no starting. Just a lot of white smoke.

Local dealer has never ran into this, but will be checking with the factory Monday. Could the glow plug controller or something go bad and cause this? The only thing I have left to check is the grounds, which is my project for the day.

Any help is appreciated.

If this is anything like my VW TDI there are three things that could be wrong. Glow plugs (test each resistance), Glow plug "relay", and the Glow plug harness.

Help me diagnose a little here. When you turn the key on, how long does the glow plug light stay on, and when you replaced the glow plugs what is the part number of the plugs you installed. I am wondering if you could have installed the wrong glow plugs as they had an update but the timer has to be matched to the correct glow plugs. Let me know.

The timer stays on for about 10 seconds initially, they maybe 7 sec or so if i cycle it a few times. The plugs that were originally in it were Champion CH 1444 10.5V, both sets of replacement plugs were NGK 0841 Y724u 8V. I was concerned that they had a different voltage rating, but the dealer told me they were correct. Even if the replacements ARE the wrong plug, shouldn't the original plugs last longer than 200 hrs? Seems so, because everyone I talk to says they've never had a problem with glow plugs on any tractor.

By the way, the tractor is a 2007 I think (not positive though).

There are two different part numbers for the controller and two different numbers for the plugs. They supposedly are supposed to be matched. I went through this last Summer and I really expect it to be a recurring problem. Actually I have had much better life from the GP's since I unplugged the the wire from the controller sensor on the thermostat housing. You probably need to get the number off of your controller and see if it is correct for the number on your plugs. Once you get those sorted out you should be OK for a while. That said, don't be surprised when the plugs fail again. Those NGK quick glow plugs are problematic IMHO.

It's under the panel below the steering wheel. It's plastic so be careful in the cold. Maybe 2 bolts on each side? Don't over tighten or you will crack it. Check the Cub Cadet forum......there was a pic on there a while back that will show you exactly where it is. Search 7205 glow plug controller or something to that effect.........

well, I read found the discussion on the cub forum about the old versus new system for the glow plugs.(http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/cub-cadet/137230-cub-cadet-7205-question-2.html). Seems like I may have been given "new" 8v plugs when the old ones were 10.5. The dealer that I bought them from never asked what voltage plugs were in it or for a serial number, dumb me for not knowing I guess.

Still doesn't explain why they burnt out in the first place....

Things wear out. Glow plugs are cheap. I wonder if they are ceramic or steel? The GP in my Kioti 3054 went bad after I sold it and it only had a couple hundred hours on it.

If your glow plugs stay on 10 seconds, then you have the updated system which is good and the Mahindra plug part number you are using with it shoud be 32A6603100 and just what the NGK number it is I don't know.
