The tractor would not start Monday (1/21/19) after last weekends warmup, snow, then refreeze. The hood would not lift either to check the new battery, though I suspected a frozen/stuck safety switch as all guages and lights worked, starter just would not engage. Temps warmed midweek, it started right up and allowed me to finish the final snow cleanup I had abandoned Sunday after dark in favor of watching the Pats game.

I called the dealer, he agreed it was probably a stuck safety switch issue and suggested lubing the clutch safety rod. I will have to figure out how to get at it under the instrument panel. He also suggested the hood issue was a frozen rubber weather strip to the steel engine platform below, and so it was. It lifted fine after the warm up. I cleaned and lubed it with pb blaster I had on hand, will look for a better lube this weekend. I may experience the same issue again with the roller coaster weather winter we are having.

I posted this in case other CK2510 owners have a similar issue.

Sounds a little "funky" but if this happens again, bounce up and down on the seat a couple times. Depending on how stiff you have the suspension on the seat set, the CK2510 Seat Switch does not always know you are in the seat if the seat is cold. The suspension gets cold, the seat is stiff, and the seat switch doesn't know you are in the seat. Make sure the tractor is in neutral, clutch depressed, and bounce in the seat while trying to turn over the engine. We have found this works quite often in the cold.

Hope this helps.

Weird, neither my ck2510 nor my ck2610 have had a seat switch. Only safety I know of is the one where you have to push in the clutch to start it. Both were hst痴 though, maybe the gear ones do.

Thanks for your responses. I will perform the seat bounce if it happens again. My dealer also said he did not think the 2014 CK2510 had the seat safety switch. I will check for it. He suggested to check the clutch depressed fully, the main and range shift levers both in neutral, and that the rear pto change lever fully disengaged. I had checked all except the pto lever. He said the clutch safety switch has a rod and nipple that could be affected by freezing. The clutch lever extends up under the instrument panel, I dont see the switch. I’ll have to see how to get to and if it can be lubed. It started right up after temps moderated from the single digits. It also started today with no issue, temps in the midteens.

I found some PB Blaster Dry Lube with teflon specific for rubber weatherstripping against metal so will try that on the bottom of the hood rubber, and the cars also!

that would be odd not having a seat safety switch, if you fall off the seat while driving, you could be run over, not good..

The early CK2510 Tractors had the Seat Switch dealer installed if we added the Mid Mount Mower. KIOTI eventually made it standard on all CK2510 Tractors.

Ahhh! There is no mid-mount mower on mine, but I will check for the switch. Thanks for that explanation!

My policy is if a safety switch acts up at all it gets bypassed rather than fixed. This way it never bothers you again
