A very competitive market with each holding it's own..A good thing in my opinion.

I don't base my buying decisions on what the masses do anyway. :drink:

Agreed! :drink:

Maybe it's just me, but I have never considered the avalance a "pickup". Maybe by definition they are, but I still refuse to consider it such. And I don't dislike them, I actually was kind of a fan when they first came out.

I didn't realize the Tundra was that strong. I assumed it had pockets of the country that it sold well in while others that you couldn't give one away. Around here Ford is by far and away #1 in sales but I see as many Tundras as I do Chevy/ GMC trucks. But this area loves the Tacoma so I would assume that if someone with a Tacoma decides to go larger they will go to the Toyota dealership first.

Around here the Tundra is only #2 to Ford.

It was weird 5 years ago seeing farmers driving them, guys pushinh snow with a Boss V Plow, and contractors driving the. Now its second nature.

There are lots of Fords here, they build them in KY.

I was surprised to see how weak Nissan was. I guess that is what you have when you have a ten year old design.

That's part of it. I remember when the Titan came out. I have a article and sales brochure somewhere that states they will only build 20,000 units per year.

When the manufacturers figured out years ago that amenities to the pickup would add sales many women entered the pickup market...
Thus the surge in pickup sales...

I was amazed to learn that the Tacoma outsells the Sierra. It blows away the Tundra in sales and isn't that far behind Ram. It's not competing with those trucks but it proves just how strong the mid-size market is and how wrong domestic makers were when they claimed the mid-size market was dying. Tacomas are up almost 30% in sales from last year! Not much dying going on in that segment. I think 1/2 tons have gotten too big for some folks.

I'm surprised GMC is so far behind Chevy. I read that they are going to make a lot of changes to the two trucks to make them a lot more different from each other, but I've always wondered why they even compete against each other. Seems GMC would be better off with just focusing on the Chevy line.

I've also read that GM is selling 3/4 of their vehicles to government contracts and that they are hurting really bad on sales to private buyers.

Around here, I see a lot of F-150's. Easily the most popular truck in this area of the country.

I'm happily part of the Tacoma 30%.

Agreed. Can GMC and let Chevy cover the trucks. GM holds Chevy back so that it can have GMC cover the "professional grade" trucks. The same goes for Chevy/Buick on the car side. GM would be wise to can the extra brand and focus on Chevy alone.
