Hm... think that through..the gear indicator bulbs have to run hundreds or thousands of hours..and generate little heat.. the charge warning bulb is made to run seconds or minutes at worst until you notice it. If you change out the bulbs.. would it melt/deform the plastic through excessive accumulative heating of the bezel? I wonder if there are LED replacements available?

Since the backlight bulbs are 4w x 2 I really doubt it would be issue, I think the bulbs are the 'PC' type like many late model instrument clusters utilize. That's a printed circuit bulb permanently attached to a 1/4 turn socket that mounts directly to the printed circuit on back. I'll have to look into LED's- I haven't seen nor heard of PC LED's but off to Google I go... :~}
