I just had my left front wheel outer bearing fail. Heard an odd screechy tearing sound, looked under the hood, and then the axle and saw the leaking seal. Dropped the loader and skidded on the back wheels and bucket to the shop. Took some thinking and and some extra weight on the rotary mower to get it up the last hill, but I made it without using the front axle again.
I've got most of it apart now, and it looks like nothing else had a chance to be wrecked, just some bearing cage and race shrapnel, and a quite a bit of fine sand size metal, from the bearings I presume? Cases and gears look good. The inner bearing is a touch noisy with no real play but I'll do it too, and the bottom bearing of the vertical drive shaft as it seems a bit noisy.
I'm thinking I should get the best outer bearing possible, and double row spherical bearings seem to be a good idea for the outer bearing as it has the most loads at the lowest rpms. Something like this I think? SKF It has 5-10 times the fatigue load rating of a decent 6309 deep groove ball bearing? And they are designed for low rpm, high loads. No one seems to publish axial load ratings for 6309 ball bearing or 21309 spherical bearing, but I would assume the spherical would be at least as high if not much higher?
I still have to do some more reading on all this stuff, to ask some intelligent questions at the bearing shop, but I think this makes sense, and I like the idea paying more for that one bearing and likely never having to change it again, or if it fails, it shouldn't be as catastrophic, just gets noisy and eventually loose like a car wheel bearing?
If anyone else has tried this, I'd like to hear how its going?

I think you got out of it on the cheap as in no noticeable damage. These appear to be fairly common among most brands anyway. Tho "establish" brands love to tell other brands how junky their "other" brand of tractor is. Shouldn't take too much to fix I hope?

I could get away with just replacing the outer bearing with the same and the one seal which would be a $100 fix. But given how easy this could've been expensive gears and cases, I'll do the next two bearings up the line as well, put in the improved bearing, and then I'll do the other side now too.

The bearing that kioti sold me was a timkin bearing when mine failed, but i had lots more damage to mine. And it happened during Covid, so no one had parts. I was able to find the exact match part thru cub cadet. I was also able to find another set of gear, bearing, seals, and outer housing. Its on my shelf.

I used to carry too much stuff in the loader without rear ballast. That damages front axle parts. I run a rear ballast now

Yes, after reading a bit on here many years ago, I do now make a point to have something on the 3pth, but the rear blade is only 3-400 lbs, so not a huge amount with a 900lb bale on the front, in the winter, but that only a dozen or so, 200 yard trips.
I have done a lot of dirt work over the years, always with the 1000lb box blade on, but there is still a lot of 4wd low range pushing and pulling with that, and I was pleasantly surprised how good the gears look still, and how tight and new everything else looks in the knuckle. Hopefully there's no issue with using the spherical bearing as I think it should be much much tougher than a ball bearing.

I have a 1000 lb rear ballast now myself. I used to move and install alot of generators. Some of those topped 1500#. Even though the tractor could lift it, it was hard on the front end. The rear weight really helped. Without weight the tractor was real tipsy.
