well it seems Dodge has a new 2500/3500 on the way and what this links says its going to have two diesels the inline 6.7cummins and a V8 5.0liter cummins. I wonder if they will tune up the 6.7? I like it because no Urea injection it wouldnt be so bad but were do yea buy it?

From what I read the 5.0 V8 Diesel will only be available in the 1/2 ton trucks. Its numbers are 320Hp and 500 lb-tq.

The F-150 will have a diesel option also. Its numbers are 210HP and 516 lb-tq. also a V8 of 4.4L.

The 1/2 ton GM's will have a 4.5L V8 that is 310Hp and 520 lb-tq.

All three engines are pretty much the same in numbers and all three will only be offered on top of the line trim packages with 6 speed auto. They will get 25% better economy over the V8 gas options.

I think this is old info you have here. I got these numbers from my Diesel Power Magazine I just got last week. Its the February 2009 issue.

Ive also heard there is not going to be a manual behind the big old cummins for those gear jammers. That could be a hit in sales but the new automatic is pretty good behind the cummins so that dont seem to be a big deal. As for the 5.0liter V8 im just saying what i read in the link there about it being in the 2500/3500.

Not to argue but why would they want to have a small diesel option? The Cummins 6.7 should be the only engine available in the 2500/3500 series truck. The Hemi just does not cut it, I had one in a 2500 4x4.:( They should have never dropped the old V10 and GM should have never dropped the 8.1 gas engines. They forced people into the diesel when many did not need it. I just hope Ford does not do the same thing and drop its V10.

Im not arguing either i think its stupid to have the 5.0liter in it aswell the 6.7 is a much better choise, I love to see the people that buy the diesel and just drive them to wal-mart. they need a car not a diesel truck.

These are the people that need the 5.0 liter

I personally think where they're dropping the ball on the new 1/2 diesels is offering it in ONLY the top level trim packages. I personally have never and don't care for the fanciest interior and all the latest gadgets, and I doubt i'm alone. now I don't want a truck that's so bare that it doesn't even have a/c, but my point is why not make it availible for ALL trim levels. I'd also like to make a comment about the Ford V10. while I'm not sure if they plan on keeping it around or not, I do know that it is almost impossible to find one. I shopped 5 different Ford dealers the other night online looking for a single truck that had the V10. I found 0.

It has always been that way with Ford. The reason is because they want you to buy a diesel. Ford makes about $1,000 more in gross profit on a V-10. They make about $7,000 gross profit on a diesel.

I bet it will be offered in lower trim levels in the future. Right now they are going after the people that just HAVE to have it and don't care what it costs. They will also reduce sales a little and allow the first year teething problems to not effect so many people.
