Going to see a used Kubota 9540 Cab, loader, 4x4. Has 3rd valve on loader, 1600 hours. Priced at 30k. Dealer says it痴 clean. Has 12 speed transmission with Hydraulic shuttle. Anything to pay special attention to on this year or model? Thanks guys

I bought my 2012 M9540 open station, 12spd, FEL, 3rd function, triple rear remotes, 2spd PTO, cast rear wheels, radial tires, new for $41,500.

I have 1450hrs. No issues. Very solid tractor.

Good luck with your decision. Post pics if you buy it.

Hi, thanks for the response. This tractor has two pairs of remotes, loaded tires and cast iron center wheel weights. I did not ask if it has a two speed PTO. When you say that, I assume you mean a 540 PTO and a 1000 PTO?
Anything in particular to look at when inspecting the tractor tomorrow? Thank you

Nothing unique to the tractor. Spend some time on it piddling around with the shuttle, FEL, brakes, steering etc.

I've used my tractor hard doing FEL tasks with a Grapple. In your case I'm guessing maybe a chore tractor? Handling hay bales or something similar?

I'd ask questions about the original owner. I'd also ask for contact information to talk to him.

Good luck with the purchase. Come back on here and let us know how it goes.

I have a 2016 M9960 HD12 with all of the bells and whistles. Nice tractor.

The only thing that I would advise that you investigate is past usage.

The 9540 and most 9960 models were built with PTO brakes that were not robust enough for use with inertial PTO loads, such as bat wing mowers.

If the tractor that you are looking at was used primarily with a rotary mower, I would be suspicious.

The PTO brake for similar tractors was redesigned late in the 9960 run to correct the problem.

Repairing a failed PTO brake on a 9540 or 9960 that was built prior to the engineering change wherein the redesigned PTO brake was implemented is EXPENSIVE.

I never disengage the PTO at PTO engine speed on any of my tractors. Idle the engine then disengage.

I wonder how a fellow would test this tractor to ensure the PTO brake is functioning properly?

Very good advice, the tractor is at a respectable dealer in New Hampshire. The second owner traded it for a articulated loader for snow work. This machine was mostly used for snow work, so the dealer says. I will work on figuring out the first owners usage and should be able to tell a lot about it by the wear items hopefully. Thanks again guys. Price sound fair to you?

Also, the side of the tractor says "dual speed". Can you guys tell me exactly what that means? Thanks. Its a 12 Speed hydraulic shuttle if it matters. Thanks

imo you're looking @ one of the better M series model ever. my 1st question would be maintenance log, etc. single owner? maybe pay for a Dealership mechanic to look over for nominal charge.

other than that, sounds great. sometimes the hyd shuttle cable needs adj after those hrs, not a bad price at all if it checks out... that price compared to current models, i'll bet grand L's go for more.
they can't touch the M :)

To get 12spds they use a 6spd trans with 2 range speeds. Low range gives you the 1-6. High range gives you 7-12. You must ce to a complete stop to shift ranges. The trans should be synchronized and able to shift on the go.

If the tractor is sound and clean it should be worth the asking price.
