Hi, first post, looking at a new 2009 Kubota BX2660. Dealer is offering a 9 % discount from List, does that sound like a good deal?

Also, I have decided to use power to scrape and level a private horse ring 175' x 75'. What attachment would you prefer?

Good for you! Hope it works out for you.

Yeah, the 2660 is pretty popular, so I think that 9% off is a very fair deal, especially if you like the dealer's support and convenience.

Most of the guys here will tell you that you will likely need a box blade and a landscape rake. Good luck on your purchase.

Get their bottom line then contact Barlows for their price. If they're close, buy local and this will also let you feel better about your price. I agree on the boxblade and probably the landscape rake or Ratchet Rake. The RR will require a FEL and does a little finer finish than the Landscape rake but the Landscape rake will do the job and probably faster than the RR since it hooks on the back and you just take off at full speed.:) Just slow down in turns. :)

thanks, the dealer is trying to talk me into a RTV500 which he says could do the job but I think it is underpowered 15 HP motor. jack

Get both BX and rtv :D . Also don't under estimate the power of a diesel compared to the gas engines of same HP.

maybe both after I win the lottery, ha. The RTV 500 is a gas 15 HP. I have a walk behind DR hand mower with a bigger engine.

For finish leveling, I find it's hard to beat dragging an 8' I-beam behind the tractor. However, the soil will need to be somewhat loose first. I hang mine from the 3PH lower arms for easier transport and the ability to use it in corners.

Hi Jack,
What part of the country are you located? I think the tractor will suit you fine. Brady, at Barlow's, is a great guy to deal with. There are other good dealers. Just need to know where your lcated.

thanks everyone for the comments, we are in Bucks County, Pa

we have 2 kub dealers and 2 deere dealers, all within 30 minutes but they all seem to be a little pricey, especially for add-ons.

When I shopped them on identical units they all hit the same $$ figure which was 9% of "their" list price, which was higher than the factory internet list $$.

Before I would buy a tractor from a distance I will talk with both kubota dealers about handling the warranty. I am not a hydraulic do it yourselfer.

I don't think Kubota RTV's are selling as well as BX's. You figure that out.

Since you are in PA, why don't you give Messick's a call. Neil participates on the board here and many Northeasterners have bought from him. They have two locations, one of which is in Elizabethtown - I know 'cause I drove there to pick up a used front blade for my BX.

Messick's | Dealer for New Holland, Case IH, Kubota, Cub Cadet and More | Online Parts, Sales & Service.

PS - Lived in Doylestown until I was 7. Loooong time ago now.

Hi Jack,
I purchased my BX25, new, from Neil Messick, with Messick Tractor Co, this past spring. My cost was about 16/17% off Kubota web list price, with delivery to Maryland included. Everything went well. You can not go wrong with the Messick people. And they're in your home state.

Hi, as a cash buyer couldn't make a deal, 9% is not good enough, I will wait for spring and if no deal in the spring than I will hire local kids to hand rake the ring and muck the barn the same as we have done for a few years.

Jack,
If you don't mind me asking, how much did they quote you the tractor for. Also, how did you spec it out.
