I found a 2007 Chevy 3500 chassis cab with the Duramax Diesel, Allison Trans 56k miles. I would like to get some feedback from you guys that have one, or used one. It has the "quad cab." I like the truck,(fully loaded, leather, very clean) I have seen these Duramaxes hauling some impressive loads, but I don't know anyone who has one. I put a deposit on it, while I get a price for a flat bed, and gooseneck hitch. This is one of those subjects where you need up to date info. I haul a 25+5 Gatormade Double dually, with a cgvw of 18000 lbs. Thanks for the feedback in advance, let her rip.

I don't know anyone who has one either, but my SRW Cummins powered Dodge2500 had to be flat bedded once due to a Fuel shut off solenoid fuse blown.

My truck had a utility body so it was heavy, I was impressed with the flat bed tow rig which had a Duramax, That thing pulled hard and sounded pretty good as well.

I don't see many duramaxs period, not sure why, maybe a regional thing. See a million Fords and alot of Dodges.

I prefer Cummins power, especially for a load like yours, but I'm sure that GM will get the job done.

What are you pulling the trailer with now? and how much money for the 3500?

Good luck, JB.

Never really see many here. Starting to see some Dodges but Fords rule the roost. That era Dmax trucks are the best one so if you are going to get one that would be the one to get.

I have a 2005 crewcab duramax, and have hauled my dozers , etc with a gooseneck. I would give it a good report. I have 130k miles now and the brakes are original. You wopuld love the allison transmission for pulling. It is wonderful. I recently had a dozer rake delivered by a trucker that was driving a 4500 crew with the duramax in it. I asked him how he liked it and he was very positive. He said he had been hauling with a cummins/dodge before and it had almost broke him. He said the duramax was making him money. On another note, I use a guy in uvalde texas for all my injection pump rebuilds. He mentioned that the mechanics told him the fords and cummins kept them in food, but if they only had the duramax to repair they would go hungry. This was several years ago however. Just another opinion everyone's got one.

Thats because several years ago the Dmax truck would barely make it off the lot. I had a 05 that was nothing but trouble.

Just razzing ya. Around here Dodge trannys keep mechanics fed. I am sure somewhere else its another brand. We all, me included, have selective memory/hearing.

I have been lucky, My nephew has a 2010 that has been a lot of trouble in its 110K miles so far. I chalk it up to ranch work with a lot of idling and low speed operation, ranch roads , etc. It seems the "exhaust regen" is a real problem with this type of use with all of the brands. The only work on mine was some front end under warranty (they are not as stout as ford) and a wiring harness fix on the ingectors. I just recently replaced the fuel filter housing due to a leak in the manual pump @ 130K. It was 169.00 and it came with a new fuel filter, which wasn't all that bad. I really like the gmc's as they have been really good to me over the last 15 years. Collected old mustangs and restored them for years, and have grown tired of wrenching. I did keep my '67 red mustang gt convertable, c6 autu with 390 big block, power top and air. My 29 year old wants to buy it and restore for a driver.

the 07 engines were pretty decent.... its not an LB7, so its had the advantage of an updated fuel system and a little more hp..
On the engine side, the main issues are a/c compressors, alternators, H2O pumps, and coolant leaks at the rear housing joint. They arent rabid with failures, but over the course of 8 years, we replaced multiples of all these components on every d-max we had... but we were loaded every mile.
The Allison held up pretty well, we only failed two of them. ours were the 5 speed version, not sure when they went 6 speed.. They had somewhat of a torque hole in 3rd gear... but again, we were loaded.... it might not be a factor when not loaded up heavy.
NADA the truck and see what its worth.. Any way to contact the previous owner?

Thanks for the feedback, I am going to pick up the truck today. I feel bad about trading in my superduty, its been a great truck. I was able to get the truck with a five year bumper to bumper warranty, a new 9 foot flatbed and gooseneck hitch for $30,232. That price is with taxes, and fees included. The truck has the LTZ package, and 56K miles. I don't do as much towing, and hauling as I used to, but when I do, it is a lot. As much as I wanted a new truck, I could not justify $45-$50,000, for a truck that would get less than 3000 miles per year.

Sounds like a fair price. Hope it works out for you.

I have owned a 2001, 2003, 2004 and a 2007 Duramax crew cab 4x4 duallys and they were ALL extremely capable and durable machines. Capable of towing much more GM or God ever intended and doing it without complaint. AND the 2007 had so much power that i never juiced it up. It would pull anything i wanted without a whimper in box stock trim.. AND it had 22.5 semi wheels all around, which actually made it work a little harder than a stocker when towing. I think you will love it.
