2006 International Plowing match

Starting September 19th - 23rd the 2006 International Plowing match is happening not far from me in Peterborough Ontario. Over 100,000 visitors are expected. Tractor Heaven has come to visit. I'm soooo.. excited.

I wish that would have caught on in the U.S. I've witnessed a "ploughing match" in England, back in the early 70's. With the competitive nature of most Americans, plowing contests would have somehow become a speed contest instead.

There would have been my chance to become the "Babe Ruth" of some sport

I'm with you junkman!!!! I love the smell of fresh plowed black soil. I am hypnotized by watching the soil turn over. I've said this before on this forum, nothing prettier than a properly adjusted tractor/plow combination at work.

In Missouri we plow from one end of the field to the other, creating dead furrows however far apart we want to drive on the ends. Then plow the ends in last. Out West, from what I've saw, they plow in a square, starting at the four edges of the field and ending up in the middle. Any other variations that I don't know about???
