2006 ford truck \"King Ranch\"??

I am in the final steps of ordering a custom built 2006 Ford F250 4x4 "King Ranch" .I figured after all these years of just making do ,mama and me are going to travel in comfort . I have looked at every bit of information I can find on them . Anyone care to share any information . I have been a Chevy man to now and it has also been a good truck ,but now I want the diesel and don't like what I have heard about the Chev .Dodge is out because of a back and neck injury that won't allow me to bend enough to get in it easily . I am not trying to start a truck war here at TBN just looking for good or bad input .

Re: 2006 ford truck \"King Ranch\"??

The truck in question, the "King Ranch" is known as the "Texas Cadiallac" (shouldn't it be the Texas Lincoln?).
I was a lifelong GM buyer also, mainly because I was born with the GM employee discount thanks to the many relatives that work (and worked) there. About the time the SuperDuty came out I was tired of poor quality stuff that should have never happened and so I sprung for a new F250. Now it's 6 1/2 years later and it still runs great with no problems. It tows, goes off-roading, gets jumped (think General Lee in the Dukes of Hazard) accidently and it can't be broken. If you're after a quality built truck that can take anything don't consider anything else.
A buddy of mine who has been a Chevy (and a few Dodges) guy his whole life got a 6.0L Powerstroke last weekend and hasn't stopped grinning since. He's extremely happy and cannot believe the power or how good it rides.

Re: 2006 ford truck \"King Ranch\"??

I was also amazed at the poor mileage the DuraMax gets--my brother in law has an 04. I owned a 90 Dodge/ Cummins that got almost 20mpg, his gets 11-12, My brothers 02 Powerstroke gets about 16-17.
I think a diesel should be capable of better than gas engine mileage.
I hear the injectors are almost guaranteed to have problems at 30K miles according to the Matco guy who traded his Duramax tool truck off recently, and the towing company near us also had problems. GM doesnt stock the injectors at the dealer level---you have to wait till it has the problem and they get them by VIN number or some cr*p, and wait a week to get your truck back. Bad service especially if you use a rig for business Id say.

Re: 2006 ford truck \"King Ranch\"??

Get limited slip on thr rear axle, get the back-up range detectors (or what ever they call it, makes backing up so much easier, you can't see the tail gate through the quad cab.) Most every thing else is included in the king cab. I got the highest axle ratio I could order (smallest number, like 3.70 maybe, but not the 4.11), Still plenty of power when towing and I get 18 mpg unloaded.

One more thought, the King Cab has captains chairs in the back, seat this means you can't haul 5 people in the cab (very easily). Look to see if you can get the bench seat. I opted for the Lariat trip and was able to specify a bench seat in the back when I ordered my F-250 6.0, 4wd. My Daughter, Son-in-law, grandson (in baby seat) all fit in the back seat of my Quad cab, quite comfortably too. I cover the back seat with a sheet and carry most of the small packages from shopping back there too, if the arms of the captains chairs don't lift, that utility for carrying latge boxes will go away.

Re: 2006 ford truck \"King Ranch\"??

Thanks Dave,
Yes my wife just asked me about 30 minutes ago if the seats folded up in the rear . I did not know and had to go look at the book . It appears that the captains chair do not fold up . The dealer just located a truck in the exact setup I want about 50 miles away and now I am wondering about bench vs captain chairs for the rear . Guess I am going for a little drive today .And I did specify the 3.73 ratio BTW.

Re: 2006 ford truck \"King Ranch\"??

I have an 01 crew cab that I have really enjoyed. It has about 65K miles on it now. The only problem I have had with it is that the transmission is slipping pretty bad when I take off from a stop loaded. I want to get it rebuilt and upgraded since I believe this is from some heavy hauling I do. I bought a set of Isspro gauges and mounted them on the left piller. That has been nice to keep an eye on the EGT’s, trans temp, and boost pressure.

Last month my family of four and grandparents drove up to Seattle Washington. My car fits 5 but the truck fits 6 comfortably with the rear bench and split bench in the front. We also had a couple of dogs and a full bed of luggage in the back. It works great for those long trips. One the other hand I don’t like taking it to stores in town because it is so long and it takes a Walmart parking lot to turn a circle with this rig. You get used to it but I hope someday they will improve the turning radius.

Enjoy the new rig. It is certainly a luxury vehicle with a luxury price to match.

Re: 2006 ford truck \"King Ranch\"??

The tranny/ torque converter is what gives under torque, espec the stock converter on the Ford diesels. Especially stressed when performance upgrades are added.
Upgraded/ HD converters are about 1200.00~ just for the part. Theres upgrades you can do to the tranny as well.

Re: 2006 ford truck \"King Ranch\"??

Love the King Ranch from what I've seen. I don't particularly like my Dodge pickup, but I love the Cummins. I have a buddy that lives in Napa that bought one. So far he loves it. I'm really conservative, so I told him that I'd let him try out the 6.0 for 5 years or so and then, if it pans out fine for him, I'll make a King Ranch my next truck. I'm sort of hoping by then that they will have the really big cab, like Dodge is coming out with this fall; a crew cab with extra room behind the rear seats. I say "Go for it!". Give us reports. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
