Anybody know what it should be? Mine shows about a 1/4 of the axel shaft. Got a demo tractor so i'm giving it a going over.

I'm not familiar with your tractor. But check for a dipstick or a 'level' plug. You may see reference to the level plug in the lubrication section of your manual.

In general, gears and shafts do not have to be full submerged in an oil sump, as they will naturalyy carry oil to each other when in motion.. in addition to oil slingers that may/may not be used.. etc.

There should be a short dipstick attached to the bottom of the fillplug. If it's not there, you might wanna pull the front diff cover and see if you can find it - before it takes a mind to jam up some gears.

Without the dipstick it's hard to say for sure, but it sounds like you might be a couple of quarts low.

Times like this i whish i had got a crate tractor and put it together myself, then i would know the machine, I admire people who build there own hot-rods etc. for that reason. Found the plug with the dipstick on the driver's side of the axle, (hidden by the power steering lines) i first looked at the vent plug. My wife even held back on the couple of dipsticks remark. Her birthday's coming up. Thanks for the help.
