I got the 990 home last night about 9 pm. It came early because today we got about 6" of snow. Real nice powder. It was great running it.

Maybe I should start a new post in a different forum (since now I own it) with the questions I have. Please let me know.

1.The tires are not loaded. Everything I read in the manual suggests they should be loaded. What are your thoughts on that?

2. The previous owner only changed the engine oil once in 174 hours at the 100 hour interval instead of the 50 hours. In addition the manual states that the transmission fluid should have been changed by now as well. Then everything reverts to 200 hour intervals. I was thinking of changing those 2 now before I do anything with it. The tractor is 6 years old so do any of you have some other recommendations?

3. Do any of you put fuel stabilizers in your diesel?

4. Do any of you have any further thoughts or recommendations?

I am going to take a couple days off this week so I can do some of these duties before I really get started using the tractor.

Thanks in advance.

First congratulations on the 990, they are just about failsafe, very nice rig!
Addressing your questions:
Loading Tires, if your only usage will be loader and backhoe work, probably wouldn't bother, on the other hand if you plan on soil engagement, plowing/disking etc., then by all means. Either way won't hurt.

As for changing the oil and transmission fluid, by all means! Don't forget to clean the suction screen; you will need a new gasket, may be an o-ring on the 990 not sure, check the manual.

Fuel stabilizers: Get the fuel conditioner by John Deere, your dealer will have it!

Last but not least, don't forget the fuel and transmission filters.

Enjoy!

Thanks OldMan for the input.

On the loading of tires. If I get it done where is the best place to get it done? I am assuming that one cannot do it themselves. I would like it if I could but I suppose their is a machine needed to do it.

Thanks

There are plenty of threads on loading. Some do it themselves with washer fluid or antifreeze. Some fill with calcium or rim guard. Just have to decide how much money or time you have. Now... You promised pics

I personally would never run a tractor two to three years without an oil change, just my opinion. I like most owners on this forum probably don't put more than 50 to 60 hours a year on their tractors but I always change the oil every fall, regardless how low the hours, even though the manual says change every 200 hours.

As for the transmission fluid, I always drain and refill after the first 50 (+/- 10) hours, this flushes out the system and keeps everything nice and clean. Everyone has an opinion on this don't mean to start a fight, just giving you my thoughts.

Check with your local tire dealers, they should be able to tell you the cost of loading the tires, would recommend Rim Guard if available, washer fluid would be my next choice. I avoid calcium chloride for obvious reasons.

another disadvantage in loading tires for me is they are hard to handle when i get a ftat all the fluid comes out, then i bring it to my tire guy he reloads it and they way a ton i need to block and takle to get the tire off of my pickup truck then i need help rolling them and getting them on i would rather have weel weights then i could take them on and off.

Work has been very busy this week. I was hoping to take a couple of days off to work on the tractor but that did not materialize. However my 14 y/o son has been chomping at the bit to drive it so I came home an hour early last night and we uncovered it and fired it up and took it for a spin in the woods. Prior to this I took some more pictures. We also took some videos as well. The pictures are uploaded and I will try uploading the videos at work where I have a little better band width. You can see them here https://picasaweb.google.com/116078...BoxAndWoodSplitter?authuser=0&feat=directlink

You can see the 2 pieces of Rock Maple which we picked up. They were green and I would guess there is about 400 lbs here and of course the 300CX handled them like a dream.

I am planning on building a shed to house it here shortly. I am meeting with the building inspector from the town this morning. I only need a zoning permit if the shed is under 200 sqft and less than 10 feet high so that should work.

I got my loan approved and I will be working to get the building permit to build my barn which entails a little bit more work with foundation etc. Then the 990 and 8B hoe will start to be worked. That will be the ultimate house for the 990 and many other things. Then I will use the shed I am building now to house my would which will make a great storage place.

My son loves driving the 990 and asked me if he could drive it to School:D. My daughter and wife are looking forward to driving it on Saturday as well. This is a great machine and it is just like having a new tractor:thumbsup:

I will keep the pictures coming and also have many more questions. I appreciate all of your help.
