2005 Chevrolet 2500HD

I know I will take a ripping for this but I will say it. If you are looking for something to haul 4 guys around or your family and looking to tow in the 7,000# range its hard to be the F-150.

A SuperCrew 4x4 with the 5.4L has about the same power (300HP and 365TQ) and has more interior room than the 2500 GM trucks. It will have a tow rating of 9,200# with the 3.73 gears and get about the same MPG towing but get 15 mpg average tank to tank not towing and 18 mpg on the highway.

I have had 3 of this setup, a 2001, 2005, and a 2007, and it was a very good all around truck plus keeps the length down. Dont sell that 5.5' bed short. It will haul the same amount as GM and Dodges 6.5' bed as far as volume because its about 6" deeper.

I see 2-3 year old F-150's 4x4's all day long for $20,000 in my area.

My neighbor has a 06 for sale but its a extended cab.

the 2500hd is some pretty good trucks i have a 2008 single cab i pull a 32ft dual tadem trailer with and has haul three tractors at once a ford 1920 a ford 3000 and ih 384 cab tractor. my truck only gets about 14 mpg emty and 9 loaded. it has the 6.0 i really like the truck and i have put about 150000 miles on it in 3 years going to tractor auction all over texas louisiana and oklahoma. but 19k is to high for this truck i have a budy that just bought a 2008 four door for 15 k out the door with 40k miles on it. but u cant go wrong with this truck

For some reason, I thought the 2500HD could be had with the 6.0l /Allison...

Actually, it's pretty easy to beat. I'll give you a hint, it has 390hp, over 400 lb.ft. of torque, is better looking, gets the same mileage as that F150, DOES NOT spit plugs or weld them into the head, and the engine is so good it didn't need to be replaced by 4 new engines! :laughing:

Looks are in the eye of the beholder. I think the 3/4 tons and up look better but not in the 1/2 ton market. Its 4th behind the Titan, Tundra, and F-150.

Yes, Dodge gets the same MPG but has it share of issue like rusting out in 5 years... For that matter the Tundra has them all beat hands down if you want to only look at the numbers.

Lets keep it on track and civil and help this guy out.

I did not put down the GM truck, simply gave him another option from experience of owning all except the Tundra. You always have to take it to another level like our other featured member.

The 5.5 ft bed would never work for me. Hauling building materials with one of those is virtually impossible. 6.5 is the absolute minimum for those of us who use the bed. The 6' increased height on the Ford is only good for hauling mulch. Even then, a skid loader bucket barely fits my 6.5 cleanly. With a 5.5, part of the bucket load would be dumped past the tailgate. At least with the loaders that the lanscape supply companies around here use.

That's why I have a xcab and not a crew.

I really don't want to drag a trailer 15 miles just to get 15 10' 2x4's.

The GM 6L is a very strong motor, but it does like gas...Towed with one once and it was impressive. There are countless 2500HD 6L GM company and contractor trucks running around here...That set up must work or these guys wouldn't be buying them.

I understand what you are saying but I can tell you 50% or more of the guys doing mowing around here use F-150's for the reasons I posted. Lots of cab room for the guys, good tow rating, and short length. My neighbor is a commercial mower and had a 06 F-150 SuperCrew that he loved but they bought a 38' 5th wheel and need something different. He got a 07 Dmax 3500 SRW and he has issues all the time fitting it where it needs to go. He also says he misses the more comfortable interior and larger cab, especially back seat leg room.

Your situation may be different and I will admit hauling long lumber can be a challenge but I hauled 20' pieces in mine all the time before I had a trailer. I simply put a towel on the dash and slid them though the power sliding rear window and then on top of the tail gate. Not the best setup but would work. Built my 32x52 pole barn that way. Brought home everything except the poles and trusses in that 2001 I had. Never had a problem hauling 10' lumber with the tail gate down. As for mulch my beds take 16 yards and we do it every other year. I have done it with the F-150 many times. A good operator just takes a bite with 1/2 the bucket in the pile.

KB - I agree, the price is a bit high. But if you did get them down on it, sounds like a nice truck.

As far as the lights, LMC has an LED cab light kit that looks factory with the wiring harness. Pretty reasonable price too.
