Bought a 2004 5520 with about 1000 hours a couple of months ago. Great tractor and only a couple of issues. On day one of use I noticed that when turning the steering wheel vibrated. Didn't think to much about it as this is my first MFWD tractor. Well just recently I've noticed that when raising or lowering the loader at anything faster than a slow movement the loader will scream as if there's either air in the lines or the pump is cavitating. Oil is clear and at full. I've talked to the dealer and of course they want to see the tractor. My question is this, is there anything that I can check first? Thanks.

Are you hearing this "squeal" when at low rpm's on the engine? Or at operating rpm's?

How long since hyd filter was changed & sump screen checked/cleaned? I'll suggest to invest in a 5000# gauge(if you don't have one) then check hyd pressure. Pressure should be 2800 psi.

-beenthere, both. -TX Jim was supposed to have been done as a condition of sale. I have thought about the sump screen but wish there was a way to check it without having to drain the fluid

BTW; I do have a gage. I I'll attempt to get a reading by this weekend weather permitting.

Place the nozzle of a shop vacuum in hyd filler hole, turn vac switch to on then pull the screen out without loosing hardly any oil

Really! I never heard of that. Does the vacuum end up pulling any fluid from the filler tube?

Fluid isn't close to that "filler" hole (hopefully!).

I'll give that a try. Probably won't happen until this weekend.

Couldn't get to it this last weekend. Will try again this week.

Thanks, will be working on that after I troubleshoot my AC. Did talk to our local JD dealer and the parts guy pulled up the diagram of the system and suggested I also check the rubber coupler on the intake of the hydraulic pump saying that he's seen either the hoes clamps can come loose or their could be a small crack that's allowing air to be sucked in.

Well this last weekend I checked the sump screen and it was ok. I did notice that I do have some minor leaking at the loader quick connects. I need to use the tractor this week so tighten up those hoses will have to wait until this coming weekend.
