We just bought a Chevy 2500 Silverado. The title and vin# verify it is a 2000. However it has the 6L gas engine and torsion bar suspension. Some of the parts I needed for it had to come from a 2001.
The GVWR /tire tag is dated 3/00. No owners manual.
I want to get a gooseneck hitch for it but I'm now not sure what model year it actually is.
Anyone have any information about how to tell them apart or the difference between a 2500 and a 2500HD?

Thanks

As a rule the model year switches in August, or four months before the calendar year changes. That should make your truck a 2000. This is just a rough guide though a sometimes model years will be different.

If it has 2001 chassis components go with a 01 MY.

This must be a GM thing. I ran into this with a 07 GMC 3500. That year they had the classic and new body. Parts were tricky.

8600 GVW for 2500 on door sticker.

HD I think is 9200

In 2001 Chevy renamed the 2500 the 1500HD and introduced the 2500HD to replace the old body style 2500 (5.7L & 7.4L engines).
Go by the 10th digit of your VIN number to be sure of your year ("Y" would be 2000 and "1" would be 2001).

Not all. Some HD's were 8800# GVWR. Chris
I just dug out the 2001 Silverado brochure and according to that, there was a 2500 model made for the 2001 model year. It was available in a regular cab long box and an extended cab short bed. GVW was 8600.
All 2500HD models from that year had a GVW of 9200 and all 3500 models had a GVW of 11,400.

Maybe different years. I know on my 05 Dmax the GVWR was 9900# because it was a 3500 SRW but the same truck in a 2500 was 8800#.

Both a far cry from my Fords. My 04 F250 was 10,000# gvwr while my 06 F350 SRW is 11,500#.
