New Holland TC40
Hi Folks, just registered for TBN for the first time, but have found answers to many issues before. I have been plowing snow pretty much every day in Western NY this week, last several near 0*F. Today I when I went to start my TC40, it started fine, but then the idle revs increase uncontrollably until I have to turn off the ignition. I checked the cable and lever/actuator arm and both seem to be moving freely. Something internal frozen I take it?

While I'm here, Jinman, thanks so much for solving at least a dozen of my issues over the last few years!

Look up "stuck fuel rack" or "stuck fuel control rack" on your favorite search engine. I'm not saying that is your problem but that's what comes to mind.

Good luck and welcome to TBN!

Jamie, is the cable and lever its hooked to on the side of the injector pump moving freely? (you may have answered this already) The lever that the cable is hooked to is mounted on a shaft. Does the shaft rotate freely? There is a similar discussion about a Boomer 8n with the same trouble. Jinman mentioned that it is possible for moisture to get in the throttle cable housing and cause it to freeze.

Heat is surely your friend. If there is anyway you can run an extension cord and hand-held 1500 watt hair dryer, you can probably defrost your injector pump or get it to let the rack move freely and the engine come normal idle. I just don't think our tractor's fuel systems work well in very cold weather.

I think small droplets of moisture in the fuel, tank pipe due to condensation can cause havoc in extreme cold climate. I don't know about NY now but we were in Chicago for the last several days and the temp was -19. We had some oranges in the bag that we left in garage, They froze almost solid. Slightest amount of moisture , freezes solid, expand in volume and can cause all kind of issue. During the summer or warmer time slight amount of moisture go right thru the system and in the combustion chamber without being noticed.
