Hey Folks. I tried a 2000 4600 tractor today and the loader was slooow. I'd guess about 30% slower than my 4310.

Is this normal or is there possibly something wrong with it? The engine speed was about 1800-2000 RPM and the loader sort of just crawled up. No weird noises or anything odd, just.. slow.

Any thoughts on this? Anyone know a cycle time?

Thanks,
Morgan

Well... that don't sound like a good thing. The 460 FEL should be every bit as fast as your old 430 (at similar RPM's) at the very least.

The first considerations that come to mind are --- how many hours on the tractor? Has the sump filter been cleaned and the hydraulic fluid changed? How about the secondary hydraulic filter? Changed recently?

If the tractor has a fair bit of hours -- the pump could be slowin' down some. But I'd guess that with normal use and regular service (filter's, etc.) the pump should be OK even at 2-3,000 hours.

In addition to what AK said, it's possible that the linkage for the joystick is binding.
The 460 loader should be plenty fast though...

I'll take another closer look. The tractor has about 1500 or 1800 hours on it. 1 owner and the rig, on average, looks to be in excellent shape. That was the only oddity. I'll do a closer comparison.. I suppose it could have just been my imagination. I suppose it could have been cool fluid and what not too.

As far as filters and service.. I can't say. The owner of the tractor is in the process of moving to Bermuda (for work!) and not exactly easy to make contact with! I've been talking to his wife.

I have 700 + hours on my 2000 JD4500 with a 460 Loader and since day 1, the loader has been slow when you are trying to push the loader lever dead right or 3 o'clock(forgot what the function is, brain fart) and its slow- but push it 3:30 or 4 o'clock and it works fine. All other functuions work as they should. Complained to the dealer when it was new and was told to live with it- that's what I have done. Maybe a call to a dealer might help you, they might have had a recall somewhere along the way.

Good Luck!

I'll check on that. To take the rig home, I have to pass within a mile of the dealer, I might just take it by.
