Finally mounted my Valby 160 Chipper on my new Kubota MX5200

Haven’t used it in about 10 years since it was so hard to take backhoe off New Holland TN75

Still works great

ok so only 18 years, My first Valby was manual feed, never again, that one beat the heck out of my arms feeding it.

Hmmm - - good looking unit. Makes me wonder - I've had two Wallensteins. First was a BX42S and now a BX62S. I feed them 100% small(1" to 6") ponderosa pines - whole - butt first. I thin my pine stands every spring and chip from 750 to 950 small pines. Never had a single problem feeding the trees or the chipper taking them. As a matter of fact - the chipper - "takes" the trees so aggressively - it has scared many who come for a day to help. Push the tree down the intake chute - let go - stand back.

Never had the need for hydraulic in feed system.

What I wonder is why I don't need hydraulic in feed - - because I use a Wallenstein ?? or because I don't feed big 'ol twisted, gnarly limbs?? or something else?? I see many use the hydraulic in feed and I've always wondered why they need the added feature. It sure makes any chipper a lot more expensive.

AndyMA - why did the manual Valby beat the heck out of your arms feeding it?? Your last picture shows a tree that should easily self feed into any manual chipper.

The Valby manual feed was fine on straight stuff. Yanked you around when I fed whole trees. Hydraulic takes whole trees with ease. No need to trim branches

18 years old? That thing is junk now. I feel so bad for you that I will come down and haul it off for you at no charge. I wouldn't want you to be embarrassed by having to dispose of it in a local junk yard, so I'll be bring it up here to Vermont and deal with it here. Just let me know when is a convenient time to com down and pick it up.

My neighbor used to have access to the twin sister of your chipper through a former employer. That machine was extremely well built.

OK - that explains some of it. But your comment - "yanked you around when I fed whole trees". Why are you still holding on to the tree once the chipper grabs it and pulls the tree into the chipper. In my case - - if I don't let go of the pine tree and stand back - - for sure, the tree is most likely going to beat the crap out of me as it self feeds into the chipper.

Are there situations where the chipper will not continue to pull the tree into the blades and you have to continue to push??? Is that why the statement - yanked you around when I fed the whole tree".
