I have a antique car that the 2 way radio antenna was removed before I got it. The vehicle has a fiberglass roof and there is a depression in the roof where the antenna was located. At present, the only thing left is the small stub that is in the middle of the depression. I would like to find another antenna for this, but have no idea what to even look for. I can see no way to attach to what is left. Can anyone help with this ????? I believe that the original radio was at frequency 155.xxx...... thanks ..... the original Junk....

I am thinking Motorola had a base for the antenna like that .

Seems like I have seen them in use with their Mitrek line.

Find a Motorola two-way radio Dealer and I think they may be able to fix You up. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am betting Your base has threads on it and the actual antenna screws on it.

It is an FM radio antenna, there is a Company named Antenna Specialists that makes that sort of antenna.

Your local police Dept. uses the same type antenna or at least most do.

What you most likely have is an NMO mount, About 3/4 inch in diamater with screw head on it. THe NMO mount can be used for any kind of antenna, most freq reanges have NMO mounted antennas.

What you see sticking out should look like this

Keep in mind that there is a lower 1/2 that has the coax cable attached.

right in Woodstock is one of the best communications guys around. Davis Comm. Where you turn off to go into Andy's farm,, he is one door down from that turn., He is now retired, however, I know he still has hundreds of parts and stuff still in his shop.

Junk,
That does look like an NMO connector. I assume that you don't want to use the radio, just have an antenna for looks. A 2 meter ham radio mobile antenna would be similar (146Mhz), and these are available in NMO mounts in a variety of styles and price ranges. Contact a local ham radio club. You might find a used one cheap.

The car has a factory AM/FM/8track/CB radio, and the original GM fender mount antenna is broken. If possible, I would like to attach a antenna to this that would work with the CB..... any thoughts ?????? thanks.......

You can get a CB NMO mounted antenna so it can be used. You will need to make sure the connector is still usable. You will need to get under the headline to see whats on the bottom.

Youcan stillbuy am/fm/cb antennas but they are hard to find. Radio Shacj used to sellthem doubt they still do. Do not expect the Cb performance to be great. Here is one on Ebay

If you can get at the bottom.. you can put in ny base you like.

Seems I've seen a threaded base like that for a scanner antenna somewhere..

I can get at the base, but the wire is run through the headliner to the front and it isn't possible to change out the wire without a lot of work. More work than I would even consider, especially since the original wire is still there...
