2" or 2.5" hitch?

/ 2" or 2.5" hitch? #11
My truck is a Y2K model, and I have not even looked at any new trucks since I purchased it. Didn't even know the 2.5" size was available now...does anyone know which brand first introduced that size, and when? Thanks.

It started with Ford on the Superduty line. They also introduced the Factory Built-in Brake Controller around the same time. GM followed about four years later, not sure about Dodge.

Yeah, without a larger pin, the 2.5" just gets you more tongue weight capacity. All my 2" hitches were already solid Class V with the 1.25" hole and my WD hitch is 2". Not cheap to toss them and start over in 2.5".

Here is a good thread on hitch pins. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/trailers-transportation/182179-hitch-pins.html

I have towed everything under the sun with my Superdutys, including a 70' Mobil Home, and never broken a 5/8" hitch pin. I have bent draw bars, broken hitches, ect. Last thing I would worry about it the pin.
