2 Cycle oil mixtures?

If you buy the single use small container it says 3.2 OZ. per gallon?
If you buy the larger size/16 OZ. it says 2.6 OZ. per gallon.
There has to be a difference here and they both say 16 OZ. per 6 gallons?
How does that figure out

What it means is is that it just ain't all that critical and if you can measure .2 and.6 OZ you is better than me.

The mix depends on the requirements of your engines. I just mix 40/1 for all mine. That's 170 cc in 1.5 gallons. I keep an old 2 cycle oil container that has the cc graduations on one side of it.

Sounds like you're messing with chainsaws, Jimi.

From what I heard at the saw shop, most of the new stuff is designed to run at 50:1 (2.6 oz./gal.) but will run almost as well and probably last longer with 40:1 (3.2 oz./gal.). The guys who hammer their saws hard all day long usually favor a 40:1 mixture even though it smokes a little more.

If you're talking outboards, better stick to 50:1 if designed for it. My favorite 9.8HP trolling motor became much harder to live with on 40:1. I should've known better; at trolling speeds, 80:1 would probably provide enough lubrication.

A lot of oil injected 2 strokes, i.e. snowmobiles & outboards with variable oil pumps, go as low as 100:1 when idling. When using mixed gas one has to mix for worst case -full throttle. My weed whacker won't run on 50:1 saw gas but will run of 40:1 ??? The small bottles typically are branded by equipment name - labeled & quantified for their products needs. Oil branded quart bottles usually have a mixing chart for various ratios while equipment branded quarts will have a single mix ratio. There are many that believe that only Mercury oil can be used in their Mercury, Husqvarna oil in their Husky & and Arctic Cat oil in their AC, etc. I use Castrol for everything but mix according to application.
