- 1951 Ferguson To-20 1998 Massey Ferguson 283 w/ loader
Well I just bought a tractor, a 1998 Massey Ferguson 283 w/ front end loader. I am having difficulties steering the tractor. When I bought it, the steering was a little stiff turning both right and left but worked alright. Now after my kids got on there a few times turning the steering wheel hard both ways( the tractor was not running) playing, the steering is now worse. I can still turn both ways but it requires much more effort than ever before. Also there is no fine tuning in the steering wheel. I have to turn 2 revolutions on the wheel to make it finally turn a little to the left or right. This makes it impossible to keep it straight.
I'll go out later today and check steering fluid as there is supposed to be a small leak in one of the cylinders. Also I might try lifting the front end and seeing what kind of steering I have as well. Any suggestions about what could cause this would be greatly appreciated.
