1995 gravely 16hp convertible
My convertible has a Briggs 16hp twin. It has 200 hours on it and looks new. Anyway recently while going forward with the forward handle locked forward, the tractor stops suddenly, then 2 seconds later, starts going forward again, the PTO is not engaged, oil level good. Any ideas why? The setting on the handle and spring have been the same and looks to be correct, any ideas?

I would look at the 2 speed axle shifter rod .
Look and see if it is jumping in and out when you move your tractor

The swiftamatic clutch is not engaging properly is my guess. Dirt, corrosion, etc can all contribute to this common issue. The dogs on the shifting gear may also be worn as a result of not engaging properly.

The best solution is to take the axle housing off and put it on the bench and inspect for worn or corroded parts.

I added a grease zerk to one of my axle housings to lubricate the shifting rod. Now it works better than it has in years.
