.... 1993 JD 410D Turbo Backhoe with extend a hoe ... Transmission problems ...

OK , when I start it up cold .... let it warm for a minute or so ... put it into reverse ... it backs up ... put it into foward ... nothing . Just sits there ... Let it idle for 10 minutes or more ... put it into foward ... you can feel it trying to pull itsellf foward in surges for 30 seconds or so , then she takes off ... then will work as long as I keep it running , but shifts hard .... Turn it off and let it set a 1/2 hour .... Won't go again , and have to let it idle all over again to run ... and seems to be slowly getting worse .... ????

Just changed fluid ( very clean ) and both filters on the hyd. system .... with no change .... HELP ???? Please tell me there is a low dollar fix !!!! What do you guys think ???

A low dollar fix? No. It sounds like the transmission pump is bad or an internal seal leaking.

Thanks for the input ..... is there any way to test the pump ? If it is bad , can it be rebuilt or will I need to replace with a new one ? Last question ... Can I , with moderate mech. skills pull the pump out myself , or will it need to go to JD ?

I suggest you check pressure on trans pressure regulating valve. It would probably be in your best interest if you procured a service manual if you don't already have one.
