1989 ford 1920 engine acceleration

Have a Ford 1920 that I am putting back together after several years of sitting idle. I have it up and running and am working out some hydraulic problems, however, I have one problem which I am uncertain about. I have it up and running and it seems to idle fine but after a while of idling it will just accelerate to extremey high RPM's and then just die. Any thoughts?

No, its fresh fuel.

Has the engine been running away since you reassembled the injection pump or is this a new symptom?

Hard to say since it hasn't run in several years .

If the engine runs smoothly, I would think that the governor linkage is not attached to the injection pump correctly.

I'll check into that. It's pretty strange. It may idle fine for 10 or 15 minutes and then just take off to excessively high RPM's. To the point that I have to kill it for fear of it throwing a rod or something.

I think the governor is internal to the injection pump. It sounds like soemthing is sticking within the pump or the governor is not working correctly.

The governor is in the timing cover.

No it doesn't but it seems I have a new problem. The steering valve at the end of the steering column has a cracked housing. New Holland is showing 1600 bucks for that thing..don't know what they've been smokin...Any have a good source for used parts?
