I purchased a new water pump and was hoping to replace the thermostat, but when I took old pump and radiator hoses off, including port between upper hose and block, there was no thermostat. Anyone know where it would be located?

It should be under the upper hose attachment to the head, the housing has a small hole to prevent airlock and should be cleaned out. Note drill bit in photo.

Or look here, New Holland 1700 Engine 06B02 CYLINDER HEAD - 1500 & 1700

By the way it is not 28hp. TractorData.com Ford 1700 tractor information
