1981 Troybilt Horse....recoil starter

My recoil starter has never worked right. I took it apart and cleaned and oiled the mechanism, used loctite on the little bolt and it worked OK for a short while. I took it apart today and it has "grenaded" inside the housing. Its on a 7hp Kohler which starts on the first pull everytime so my question is: Has anyone ever converted it over to the old style rope and pulley? I've had enough of the tempermental recoil starter!:thumbdown:

On some of the 7-8 HP K-series, if your remove the recoil from the blower housing the old rope pulley is built into the cup that the recoil previously used.

Unfortunately this one isn't.

you will need an open cup with the rope notch in it and your good to go! thanks; sonny580
