To all with the intermittent starter problem on the Gehl 4500 and maybe many more, finally found the problem, The wires going to the starter solenoid from the switch is to small and if the battery is just slightly low the voltage drops to much to kick the starter al the way in, The solution is to install a starter solenoid down near the starter and run heavier wire from the battery to the new solenoid and then to the starter solenoid, then you can operate the new solenoid using the old wires from the switch because the new smaller solenoid don't use as many amps as the old starter does.
