1975 Ford 3000 power steering control valve issues

Hi,

We have a 1975 Ford 3000 power steering issue. It used to leak out of the steering column seals which where replaced and everything worked OK till recently the power steering stopped working.
We checked the pump output with it isolated from the system and it pumps approx 4 GPM at 800 PSI which should be to spec. When hooked up to the control valve it pumps through at 200 PSI, but it appears that all cylinder ports are under this pressure and it is harder to steer then without the pump running.
We have removed the control valve, cleaned it and reassembled. The groove in the control valve spool is toward the top. All plungers are free moving with the springs installed between them and the two check balls are inserted between the check valves. However this did not help the situation.
Anyone have suggestions?

Hey John,

I am curious to what you found out. Sounds like I am having similar issues. Putting the steering column back together (pump worked fine before i started the repair) get the point where i bleed the power steering system and its as though no fluid is getting past the control valve. Any info you might have got would be handy. Thanks!
