1971 mf 135 diesel oil pressure question

last winter we got pounded with a major snow storm, 5ft of snow i was out quite a while with my tractor and 6 ft blower. I noticed after a while
the oil pressure droped to a little above the halfway mark on the guage from full. I shut the tractor off and went inside for a coffee to let it
cool down. when i checked, it was showing full on dipstick, Now i had the rpms reved up to where it shows on tractor meter for pto.but
this has me puzzled. Normally The blower does not run as long but this was alot a snow.Anybody got any idea on whats going on?

How cold was it? Are you running multigrade oil? What numbers? Did the oil pressure return to high end of the gage ?

It was around -12c and I use 15-40
Syn oil and when it cooled down the oil press went back to the extreme right of the guage. The guage has no numbers on it

I was thinking about putting some lucas oil stabilizer in the engine. I read the reviews and a lot of people are saying to stay away from stuff like that STP etc. i talked to a friend of mine and he said if the tractor is out in the cold and when you start it the engine would start knocking with that stuff in it

I wouldn’t put Lucas anything in it, other than good oil, and a clean filter.
How’d it run this whole spring and summer?

I don’t use the tractor in the summer. Use it in the fall for hauling firewood and winter for plowing and blowing snow. Talked to a diesel mechanic this morning he told me don’t worry about it.

I suspect that is good advice -- don't worry about it. Since you use it mostly in cooler weather it makes sense to use thinner oil. I'd probably go to 5W 30 instead of 10W 40 but this is not going to make any huge difference. I'm not an advocate of additives but in an older tractor like that it probably is a good idea to do a little to clean out the oil galleries as much as is easy to do. I'd change the oil, make sure you have a clean filter on it and add some Seafoam or other widely recognized oil additive with the new oil. It is not going to revolutionize your world but I'd call it good practice.

thats good advice and I'm going to follow it. I do use seafoam in the fuel for my truck,lawn tractor, wood splitter so I'll be hauling firewood in a couple of weeks
so I'll put the correct amount in the engine oil, run it for a vew trips and change it out. I don't put many hours on this tractor but I look after it. thanks again for your good advice and quick response you have a good Day!!
