Backhoe 1971 Ford 4500 Backhoe won't start

Was digging with older 4500 3-cylinder diesel backhoe and it just died. It was like it ran out of fuel. Tried to restart numerous times but it would just turn over but not start. I tried using ether and then it would start but die out once the ether was used up. Have changed the fuel filter and bled the system but it still will not start. I disconnected the fuel lines at the injectors to check that diesel was flowing and it was. Am at a lost what to do next. Any suggestions?

So, runs on ether ( fuel ).. That tells you you have compression and things like valves are opening and closing .

That means you realm have to recheck fuel delivery.
