1969 Case 580CK
Hi Guys

if this is the wrong area, please let me know and I will delete.

I just purchased a 1969 Case 580 Ck backhoe Diesel . Starts, engine runs well, smokes a little bit. FEL and BH operate, but bit sloppy. However, it leaks like a sieve on every ram. Lucky for me, the case dealer is 3 miles away and so getting it worked on is easy. not cheap, but close. I had gotten a reasonably good price on it for our market, but the cost to fix all the rams/leaks will put in on the wrong side of market value. I've about decided these things will bring around 6K in N. Texas if they run at all. and if you buy out of state, the transportation costs will usually more than make up whatever you saved on the purchase price

however, not a single gauge on the tractor appears to work. I have scoured the internet and haven't found how to update the gauges or buy replacements. I can find all sort of other things, but not the gauges. Does anyone have any links or ideas / tutorials on how to replace those. As I understand it, this model was essentially the same From 1966 - 1971

I also need a turning seat (the on there right now appears to be home made or something) and the 'lid' to the battery box appears to be gone. Also, there is no headlights as in nothing there at all but holes, and id like to get all that back working.

When I bought my 580D/E ( super D chassis with E motor installed) I had a similar issue in that the ‘circuit board’ gauge panel was toast (common problem on my vintage 580D. I took out the entire Case crappy gauge panel and fabricated a new panel from Lexan and mounted all new weatherproof gauges-frankly improving the information provided as well (tranny oil temp for instance), also swapped to an electronic tach using the signal off the alternator-although this part of the gauge swap has been a bit more problematic.

I r&r’d most of my piston seal but used aftermarket seal kits as Case’s OEM pricing is ridiculous.

You don't say how much work you can do yourself, that's a big factor deciding if you got a good deal.
Most cylinders can be repaired with generic parts if the basic parts are good.
I have even bought blank 4" cups and punched the holes in them for tilt cylinders on an old Clark forklift!
As stated, will be easier to up grade the gauges and be finished fooling with them.

I am not doing any of the work right now. I have full time job. the case dealer is only about 10 minutes from our property (in fact ill drive the 580 home when it's ready). so for this 'round' it's more economical for me to have them do it. most, if not all the seals will be done by Monday. the hoses that have to be replaced should be done within a day or two. however, I still have issues with gauges and other items that are no longer on this tractor (battery box lid, seat, tool box). was hoping someone else had idea on how to get replacements for those. would also really like a ROPS , but am not sure if that is possible. hoping they find no major problems with shuttle , brakes or engine... in looking more closely at the FEL, I think it's eventually going to need new forks

This link to Case Construction should give you the info you need:Official Case Construction Equipment Online Parts Store and Parts Look Up. Parts for Case Equipment and Construction Equipment. Parts Store for Case Wheel Loaders, Case Excavators, Case Skid Steers, Case Original Parts.
I've already set it to the Case 580 CK, so just click on a function group, and you're set. When looking for generic parts, find the part in these pages, then click on the part in the list. Another window will appear, with part description, and part number. Copy and paste that part number to a good search engine, such as Google, and see what pops up. Normally lots of hits doing that.

Also here is a link for the loader, and hoes used on it. Official Case Construction Equipment Online Parts Store and Parts Look Up. Parts for Case Equipment and Construction Equipment. Parts Store for Case Wheel Loaders, Case Excavators, Case Skid Steers, Case Original Parts. The model 33, and 35 were used on it throughout the years. Even with this, you'll have to check close, as Case was infamous for changing parts & part numbers at certain serial number breaks. Hopefully, the S/N tag is still on yours, to determine the exact date of mfg.

I did put a kit in one cylinder on my 480C, but it was a bear. End cap according to the manual needs to be torqued to 400+ ft. lbs. The spanner wrench I have kept popping out of the holes, so went with a big pipe wrench, and cheater, to get it back to where the retaining screw half holes lined up. The rest I took to a semi-local hydraulic shop, and had them done. Cost was $75 each, including the kit. Being the seal kit through Case was $35 ea., I wasn't going to bust my knuckles for $40 each, and no pipe wrench gouges in the end cap.

One other thing... If by chance your hoe has circuit breakers on it like my 480C, the Case prices are ridiculous. You can go to any auto parts stores, and get Buss brand circuit breaks for about $4, vs Case $20 some. Same circuit breaker, and in the parts description on the Case site, it gives the amps of each one
