I'm doing some research on brake replacement on my loader/hoe. When comparing what my tractor's planetary assembly is versus what the Service Manual cross section picture of the same shows, do they look the same to you? The axle in the diagram looks like that of a car that uses wheel studs and lug nuts where my rims use the 6 large hex bolts and nuts. I'm wondering if my service manual is going to be helpful in disassembling or have I got a whole different rear axle?

Use a service manual for the 165 farm tractor, your axle and brakes are the same on the 165.

Thanks Dieseltech! The Agco books list 5 axle choices and 2 brake systems for the 165. One axle can be eliminated based on appearance. To identify the correct one I'm going to look for casting numbers.

They look like the same axles on my 135 Orchard (165 rear end). There's a good video on youtube by Canadian Redneck that shows him repairing/replacing the brakes on a 165. You probably know all of this but I'm excited because I feel like I finally have something to contribute instead of being a curious non-producer. If your brakes look like the picture you have the inboard disk brakes that are dry. The outer planetary has a separate reservoir. I think I read in my service manual to fill them with the same hydraulic fluid as the tranny/hydraulics but I've read on a forum to use gear oil.

I just remembered that I had trouble identifying the difference between two axles when ordering parts. The difference came down to the number and the diameter of the balls in the actuating mechanism.

Thanks for your post, AM. I have seen the Canadian Redneck video and it made me realize the job isn't that big of a deal. I haven't started yet but hope to soon.
